Description THIS IS MY OPINION AND YOU CANNOT CHANGE THAT. If you agree with me then good for you, if not then to each their own. Don't flame because someone else thinks different than you. It just makes you look pathetic.

NOTE: I am NOT going to sugar-coat this. This is because it is my raw, honest opinion and I stand by everything I believe in. I do not believe in making my opinion sound more "polite" so the butthurt SJW's/easily triggerable little kids who can't fucking read author's notes don't get their panties in a twist and go into a frenzy. If you don't like it then ignore it and don't fucking read it again, plain and simple.

So if you've been on DeviantArt you've probably ran into something called a "closed species" at least once. You know that you can't create your own unless you get special permissions from the owner, usually obtained through paying them. Usually the owners of those "closed species" act like they have FULL copyright over their idea. Let me tell you, though, THEY DON'T.

Now I'm not advocating that you go and create characters from those species; if you wanna disrespect the owners and get your ass fucked by the railroad spikes of angry little bitches and get legal threats thrown at you left and right because you can't go without that precious little CogDog or CactusFish then that's your decision and yours alone, because I'm not your fucking boss.

BUT according to Copyright.gov, copyright does not protect ideas, concepts, systems, or methods of doing something.

COPYRIGHT PROTECTS ARTISTIC AND LITERARY WORKS.
CopyrightΒ DOES protect the ways those ideas/etc. is expressed in writing/drawings. This means if you make a fairy dinosaur species and try copyrighting it IT WON'T HAPPEN because it is just a CONCEPT. The ART created on the other hand WILL be copyrighted because it EXPRESSES the concept, rather than standing alone as a concept. THIS IS WHAT THE SPECIES CREATORS DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW BECAUSE THEN THEY WILL BE VULNERABLE TO HAVING OTHERS CREATE CHARACTERS FROM "THEIR" SPECIES UNWANTED. They can say it's unofficial and that it will not be recognized all they want but unless they've actually gotten off their asses to get the name and design of a fucking species trademarked THEY CAN'T SAY SHIT. And even THEN do they just get the rights to the word and design and NOT the concept like they think they do.

Let's go back to the dinosaur fairy example species. No one ever copyrighted/trademarked dinosaurs and no one ever copyrighted/trademarked fairies, meaning that the CONCEPT is up for grabs by anyone who fucking wants to use it. Now, anyone who wants to make a "DinoFairy" thinks they have to go through me, the example species owner, to get it, when in reality they can just create their own for free instead of throwing $60,000 at me like I'm a stripper for the imaginary stamp of approval to make one.

Now they realize that they can just bypass me instead of shitting bricks just for the rights to draw a fucking character without persecution. OH SHIT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT? IS THE SPECIES CREATOR GOING TO GET ON THEIR ASS??

No, because I'm not a fucking idiot who shits themselves over something that's available to everyone. Unless I got up right fucking now and got a trademark for those DinoFairies I cannot do shit because it's a bunch of COMMON FUCKING ATTRIBUTES STAMPED ON A CROSS OF TWO THINGS.

Personally I've seen a lot of species that are hybrid species and personally I don't think they're all that original either. I don't think completely made up ones are either because the whole point of being creative to ME is to make something and share it so EVERYONE can enjoy, NOT a bunch of fucking closed off ideas and bullshit lies like "IT'S EASIER TO MANAGE " because you want to look smart and innovative with doing something that has already been fucking done a million times over.

IT IS ALL A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT.
NOW if you aren't already typing up a book on how "CLOSED SPECIES ARE TOTALLY WITHIN THEIR RIGHTS!!!" then you would like to hear me out on my next opinion.

CLOSED SPECIES MAKERS ARE ALL GREEDY.Ever notice how every closed species maker only let people obtain their *TOTALLY NOT FREE TO CREATE* creatures through money and MYO events? I feel that's because they are all out for peoples' money because they want to seem cutting-edge and act like they're in the fucking right when all they're doing is sucking your money out of you like a back-alley hooker.

They create their "species" to be as cute and aesthetic as possible and then restrict the ability to create one yourself by making it "closed".
People will always want what they can't have and a lot of people don't understand the concept of copyright which means that they're mindless sheep to the species makers and they can use them to whatever they please. It oftentimes makes me ask why showcase something that people can't touch or has LITERALLY NO VALUE OTHER THAN BEING A LUXURY.
Art is fine because it has value; it expresses ideas and can mean a lot to the artist/commissioner/viewer.

WHY FUCKING RESTRICT A CONCEPT OF ALL THINGS?
And now we cross into how restriction turns into supply in demand and auctions.
Auctions are fine, really. They help promote the artist/organization and oftentimes goes to a good cause like a charity auction or helping with paying an artist's rent. Congrats you just helped a person! You made someone's life better through a kind act.

BUT it gets bullshit when SPECIES MAKERS DO IT. If those species makers just use auctions for YCH or art then that's okay but when you auction off the rights to a fucking concept that's where you're an idiot in my book.
It all comes back to when I said that copyright only protects art and literature. You're taking a concept and literally AUCTIONING IT OFF and acting like you're being generous and letting a lucky winner get the imaginary stamp of approval to make a character of the said species.

For example, the Primagens. Cedar (the species creator) very rarely hosts auctions and when she does people come FLOCKING IN BY THE HUNDREDS LIKE A GODDAMN HERD OF SHEEP. There was one user who bought their "Primagen" for $600 and another that paid $1200 for a Primagen. Now, Cedar doesn't put a price tag on them but that's how high prices go because they're so rare that people will literally shit bricks and sell their cars and fork over apartment rent for a Primagen. It's disgusting and THAT'S how bad it gets when you decide to restrict a goddamn concept from a bunch of sheep that think "OH THIS IS SO CUTE!!! HAVE MY CREDIT CARD!!!" and that they can't just easily bypass your retarded "rules" and make one of their own because THAT'S WHAT CREATIVITY IS: SHARING SOMETHING THAT EVERYONE, WITH OR WITHOUT MONEY, CAN ENJOY. INSTEAD OF FUCKING OVER EVERYONE WHO IS EITHER TOO POOR OR TOO YOUNG TO BUY THE RIGHTS TO YOUR CRINGY "SPECIES"

These shits sell like fucking iPhones
In fact if they were iPhones they'd be sold out at every goddamn store because of how much she restricts people from buying Primagens. There are only SIX "recognized" Primagens AND THEY'RE ONLY FUCKING CYBERNETIC RAPTORS
PEOPLE ARE FORKING OVER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THEY CAN'T EVEN PHYSICALLY USE!!

IN CONCLUSION.
Personally I think it's sick to close off something that's meant to be enjoyed for everyone the way closed species creators do.
I think it's fucking stupid. Anyone who closes off a concept is a fucking retard.
Let it be known that I'm not saying that I'm gonna play God and tell EVERYONE to change the rules of their species.

You do you, but you're a fucking moron in my book. If you don't care then cool because I never wanted you to.

This is MY opinion and I don't care if you care or not because it's what I think that matters to me much like how what you think matters to you, kay?

See you all whenever I feel fed up with something that's bullshit.

I agree, lol. Just to be a dick I decided to make a bunch of Scarfoxes, because closed species are wrong, and dolls who are foxes with scarf arms is just unoriginal as fuck, and shouldn't be worth 300 dollars. For the Primagen, I also made one to be a dick, because as a concept, that shouldn't be a closed species at all, and nothing can be done to me because most of these "closed species" don't have protection or anything. Lol. In short, I agree with this rant.

Why is greediness always considered a thing by other people? Artists are not greedy, they simply make money for their life like food and rent.
