Superman has killed at times in both the comics (in every era, no less) and the various movies/cartoons/TV shows. It's not out of bounds for him to do so in situations where the stakes are apocalyptic and the enemy can't/won't be dealt with any other way.

He constantly questions whether or not he's doing the right thing in the comics, whether being Superman causes more harm than good or whether he's letting it destroy his personal life.

His is not a "happy story." His homeworld gets destroyed in every incarnation, he loses his foster parents -- or at least one of them -- in most incarnations, he gets taken for granted and/or emotionally abused by Lois in many versions (she even cheated on him with an ex-boyfriend and walked out on him repeatedly during their marriage in the 1995-2004 stretch of the comics), he's suffered a gruesome near-death experience at the hands of Doomsday, he has to live with knowing innocent lives will always be lost no matter what he does, he has to live with knowing he's going to outlive all of his friends and loved ones by eons, he has to cope with being alone among humanity and being hated and feared by some...at its heart, the Superman saga is a tragedy and always has been.

He's been written as a space god on a variety of occasions (the Reeve films, the Doomsday-era comics -- complete with Jesus-style resurrection, ALL-STAR SUPERMAN). It's not a foreign take on the character.

As for being a "very moral person," SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT and SMALLVILLE both presented a Clark who was far more selfish and morally bankrupt than anything MAN OF STEEL did. Also, the Golden Age comics, the very first Superman stories ever? Superman was no saint in those. He was much more morally gray than most people realize, and did some pretty questionable things in the name of the greater good.

There's never been a Superman that lines up with the standards you're arguing for. Even the Silver Age Superman, the most "nice guy" version of all, killed on at least one occasion and indulged in some very unheroic behavior. Superman has always been a flawed man. If you want to argue that MAN OF STEEL handled its situations badly and didn't make them feel organic to the story, you'd have a valid argument. But to assert that Superman was out of character in the movie? The source material and the previous adaptations don't support that at all.

I don't want to have an argument in someone else's comments that is rude. However, plainly I can say-

I can defend what I said because it is only the modern era that has changed the character, it would be as saying 

Mazinkaizer is like Mazinkaizer SKL, maybe on a fundamental level, but they are near apples and oranges from

Go Nagai's tone despite situations, and so is Superman different in tone in the modern era to his previous golden

and silver age self. Superman has always had problems, conflict is part of any story, but the tone is so harsh

and violent, it is a reversal of the usual tone of his stories.

Yes the movie had it's problems, I admit the tone made me feel uncomfortable, feeling like it wasn't superman... but your first comment was so "attack mode" as if you were blaming the artist for what happened. It's not their fault, they're just doing some fan art.

I don't care if it's "unwanted" or not. You made assertions that aren't true, I responded with evidence to the contrary. You don't get the right to throw hissy fits over it.
