Description 'Bound By You'

Hours later, Oki woke up. She felt hollow inside, partly because of the dream she had had the night before, and also because she knew she was not going to live much longer. She clenched her chest as she felt a spike of pain. She grimaced for a second before the pain faded.

“Not yet, Light still has to call me, and I still need to know that he will give me my wish. I need to know.”

---

Oki paced around that morning. Finally, in between the cups of tea and food Amaterasu forced her to have, Oki’s cell phone chimed. She jumped to answer it, with that jump had come another spike of pain. Reluctantly, Oki’s hand shot forward, after gasping for the breath stolen by the sudden chest pain.

“Hello, Oki,” Light said.

“Light! You’re back… aren’t you?” Oki said, realizing that this was the old Light she knew.

“Yes, I am back at the base,” Light said to confirm to her that he was Kira again, “Did you make it home alright last night?”

“Yes, but I’m just happy to hear that you are ok. You do remember what I asked of you, right?” Oki asked.

Light stayed silent for a minute. He hated that he couldn’t give her the answer that she wanted.

“…Light?”

“Huh? Oh sorry…” He was still handcuffed to L, and didn’t want to talk about such a depressing and private matter with his dark leech sitting only two feet away. “Yes I do… but my answer still stands Oki. I lo-”

Light was interrupted as L grabbed the phone from him.

“Ah Oki, how are you this morning?” L asked, in his usual inquisitive tone.

Oki inwardly cursed as she heard his voice, “L could you please give the phone back to Light? I need to-”

“No. You didn’t answer my question. How are you? It’s gotten worse, hasn’t it?” L stated firmly.

Oki looked at her phone, that stern glare that she used on L before now fixed on her face. However, she still gave the detective her answer.

“Yes… I don’t think there’s much time left for me…” Oki answered.

On the other side of the line, L, who now had control of Light’s phone, could only look at Light who had a mixed expression of anger and fear on his face.

“Am I going to lose her? Now of all times?” Light thought to himself.

Light suddenly grabbed the phone back from L.

“Oki, I am coming to see you,” Light paused and stared at L, “I will be there within the hour... Alone.”

“But Light, aren’t you and L still…”

“Yes we are still cuffed, but now that we have caught Kira, there is no reason to still be cuffed together. I will see you within the hour – Alone.” Light glared at L again.

L quickly took the phone from Light once more.

“Oki I am sorry, but Light is mistaken. He will not be there alone. I still am not completely convinced…” L paused when Light quickly got to his feet, anger flaring in his eyes.

L looked up at Light, seeming not to care for his anger and finished his sentence, “… he is not Kira. Plus we have to take into consideration what you told me a few weeks ago. I just cannot afford to let you two be alone right now.”

“Damn you, L!” Light exclaimed. “Oki is dying and I want to see her. And I want to be alone with her. What the hell are you trying to prove here?”

Oki could hear Light yelling in the background at L, “L, please put Light back on the phone.”

L extended his arm out to Light with the phone, “She wants to speak with you again.”

Light took the phone and turned his back on L.

“Oki…”

Oki clutched at her chest as it felt like it was about to explode with pain.

“Light…” was all she managed to say.

Light’s heart sank when he heard Oki’s pain-stricken voice.

“Oki! Oki are you alright?”

Light could hear Oki breathing heavily in the phone. After a few seconds Light could hear nothing from Oki’s end of the phone.

“OKI! NO!!... OKI!” Light dropped to his knees.

Chief Yagami quickly went to his son’s side. He placed his hand on Light’s shoulder for comfort as he took the phone from him.

“Miss Saito… Miss Saito,” he tried getting her attention.

When all he heard was Oki’s faint breath, he quickly looked to L.

“Get an ambulance over to Miss Saito’s home… Now!”

As L was getting his phone from the table, Chief Yagami heard Oki’s anguished voice again.

“Light… I need to hear Light’s voice,” Oki managed to say.

“Wait!” He said to L. He quickly handed the phone to Light.

“Oki…”

“Light… Please… It has to end,” Oki started to sob, “Please, Light… Please tell me you will do this for me?”

Light draws his hand to his face, “I love you too much Oki. I just can’t do it…” Light answered regretfully.

Light fell silent as he heard Oki sigh, “I love you too Light… I am sorry this is hurting you so badly.”

“Oki?” Light says to her.

Oki did not reply.

“Oki…” Light said to her again. Fear once more filled his mind and voice.

After a moment, Light got to his feet and walked toward the door. The chain between himself and L became tight as he kept moving.

L was pulled along, but quickly gained footing and stood his ground. Light spun around and glared at L.

“You have one, of two options here L.” Light growled at him.

The other investigators in the room saw this was not going to be good as Matsuda interrupted saying, “L you know there is no real reason for you to still be cuffed to Light.”

“Yeah he is right. I mean we caught Kira. There is no real reason for you two to still be like this.” Aizawa added in Light’s defence.

“I have my reasons,” L explained taking his seat back in front of the monitors.

Light grabbed the chain connecting L and himself and jerked it with great force. L’s chair spun quickly with him in it as the cuff on his wrist pulled tight, ejecting L from his seat. Light stormed toward L as he landed on his feet. Chief Yagami got between them.

“Stop this now, the both of you!” He exclaimed. “Fighting is going to get the both of you nowhere! Now, the both of you sit! I am sure we can come to a reasonable compromise.”

“I do not have time for this I need to get to Oki!” Light exclaimed.

Chief Yagami looked at Aizawa. “Call the hospital. Tell them to go check on Miss Saito. Once they have confirmed her safety, tell them to call us back and let us know how she is.”

Light’s father looked at Light. “There, now you do not have to worry so much. We can come to a reasonable negotiation here and once that is done. You can go see her.”

Light not completely pleased with what his father said, nodded regretfully taking a seat in his usual chair. L watched him, as Light looked up at L. The look in Light’s eyes was cold and distant. L knew with what went on last night he could not hold Light like this any longer. However, he could not shake the feeling that Light has once again changed and right before his very eyes.

---

A couple of hours later Light was knocking at Oki’s front door. Amaterasu knowing it was Light went to let him in. Light not being able to see anyone at the door knew Amaterasu was the one that let him in. He stepped in the door pausing. Light looked down at his feet seeing Oki’s Death Note drop to his feet.

He slowly kneeled down picking it up. Once he was at a full stand Amaterasu appeared in front of him.

“Where is she?”

“In her room resting.” She told him.

Light proceeded to Oki’s bedroom as he opened the door. He saw Oki fast asleep in her bed. Light released a sigh of relief and felt the weight of the day lifting from him as he looked upon Oki. He closed the door behind him and walked to her bedside. Light looked down on her as he thought to himself.

“I almost forgot how beautiful she was. I feel like it has been forever since I have seen her through these eyes.”

Just then, a tear welded up in his eye. Light blinked as it slowly trickled down his cheek. He knelt down next to Oki and the bed, gently moving Oki’s hair from her face. He gently caressed her cheek as he spoke softly to her.

“I wish we could have met sooner. There is so much I still want to share with you and our time is finally coming to an end. The times I have spent with you has been the most enjoyable moments I can remember having. You have truly stolen my heart, and soul. With you absent from my side, I will be lost without you.”

Another tear trickled down Light’s cheek. He slowly lowered himself closer to Oki as his lips brushed against her cheek. The tear fell to Oki’s cheek as he slightly pulled back.

“What am I going to do without you?” Light whispered.

Light so lost in his heart break did not notice Oki stirring. Oki lifted her hand caressing Light’s back.

“You will not have to worry so much.” Oki replied in a weak tone.

Light did not move from his position as Oki felt his warm breath on her cheek as he spoke softly, “I wish there was something that could be done to cure you.”

“If I could grant you your wish, I would.” Oki told him.

“That would make me very happy if you could. Then I would not have to worry about ever losing you again.” Light whispered to her.

“It is better to have lost in love, then to have never loved at all.” Oki said.

Light pulled back from her abruptly looking down on her. “Do not use those stupid clichés on me.” His eyes showed anger from her quote.

Oki looked up at Light as she slowly pushed herself up in her bed. Light watched her as she sat up and looked into his eyes. Her eyes even so close to death still glimmered with the hope of life.

“I love you Light and I will take that love with me even in death.”

Oki reached up touching Light’s cheek. Her hand was warm and felt of silk as it caressed against Light’s skin. Light quickly rested his hand against Oki’s as he closed his eyes. His mind drifted as he thought.

“Please just one more night with her so I can show her, how much I truly love her.”

Oki went to get out of bed as Light quickly opened his eyes, “What are you doing?!”

Light placed his hands on her shoulders keeping her in her bed.

“I am getting up. I want to sit and talk with you.” Oki told him.

“We can do that right here.” Light says laying her gently back on her bed.

Oki watched Light as he stood removing his jacket, laying it at the foot of the bed. He loosened his tie removing it as well as he unbuttoned a few of the buttons on his shirt. He looked back at Oki gently sliding his arms under her lifting her from the bed and moving her over slightly. Light slid into bed next to her.

“Light what are you doing?” Oki asked in a shocked tone from his actions.

“I am going to lie next to the women I love. Is there something wrong with that?”

“But…”

Oki was stopped as Light took her in his arms and kissed her. Oki’s head swooned as Light delivered the most heated and passionate kiss she had ever received from him. Light pulled back slowly as his lips brushed against hers.

“I promise to behave.” A smirk came to Light’s face. “Anyway I am sure your heart could not handle it.”

Oki pulled back from Light with an odd look on her face. She playfully hit Light on the arm, as she replied, “Smart ass…”

A smile came across Light’s face as Oki smiled as well.
