Every good urban fantasy series needs a good main character (or two). When it comes to heroines, it seems like they need a few things:

1. A job or activity that can be used to get them involved with the supernatural.
2. A personal tie to the supernatural to make them "special" in some way.

After looking at the prompt list and seeing things like "school teacher" and "school bully" and "cheerleader queen," I decided to go for a teenage heroine, so... Meet Moreen "Mo" Gallagher! Her family runs an estate sale business, and she, of course, has been drafted into the family business for as long as she can remember, which gives her a reason to be poking around dead (or downsizing) people's stuff in a variety of locations, so #1 is taken care of. Her job has given her an embarrassing amount of knowledge about the value of various antiques and collectables.

As for #2, I decided to make her a quarter banshee. In this case, I'm going with the bean sidhe fairy instead of the family ghost variety: a type of fae known to predict death and keen and lament a lot with a destructive shriek and whatnot. Mo's grandmother, Granny O'Reilly, is a full banshee and decided to put her talents to good use with the family business: she can start targeting future clients before anybody kicks the bucket. Mo is aware of the heritage, but she doesn't really take it seriously; she just thinks it's Granny's twisted sense of humor to have a 16-year running joke about being a harbinger of death.

Mo herself just gets a sense of foreboding when something bad's going to happen to something. Fun fact: she loves to sing, but no matter what she tries to sing, it always turns into a tearjerker.

She's the main reason I'm starting the challenge a bit late. I figured I should spend some time working out the person everything else on the prompt list is going to relate to. If I do her digitally, her hair won't be quite that red - I was going for a reddish-brown, but my set of markers didn't have quite what I was looking for. I'll also play around with her outfit more - her work clothes here make her look even younger than she actually is.

I picked this one because I like Urban Fantasy and am pretty familiar with the tropes, so I figured I could have some fun with character design.
