Description Well, I said I was going to do it, and I did! This doodle sketch thing was neat enough that I decided to go ahead and clean it up and color it. It was something of an experiment, I guess. Despite Ani's mood in the pic, I wanted a warm, sweltering-heat kind of feel to the pic, like it's a late summer afternoon. Then, it's been awhile since I tried soft-shading rather than cell-shading, so I went ahead and played around for a few hours (my wrist most definitely prefers cell-shading).

Anyways, this is Ani, and the dog is Ammut, in the form she uses for going out and about in the mortal world (since a lion/hippo/crocodile demon miiiiight get a few odd looks here and there). She also has a human form, but she only takes it when she desperately needs hands or the ability to speak.

Original sketch done in Manga Studio EX
Lineart and color done in Photoshop

Aw, that's really cool! I like the soft coloring and his expression! And jeez, you're hella awesome with anatomy!!

Wow, the coloring is so smooth! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of brushes did you use with that? It's been boggling my mind ever since I started messing with PhotoShop, lol!

*laughs* Thank you! I took a break from soft coloring for awhile, so I'm glad I haven't lost it.

And I don't mind at all. For coloring like this, I use the basic solid round brush, set on an opacity between 30-45%. After using various shades, I go back and use the smudge tool (It's an option under the blur tool, if you're new to photoshop) to blend it all together, and then for an extra bit of smoothness, I go over any rough parts with the blur tool. I would not suggest using any of the blur filters, though - much better to use the more controlled method.

Excellent, as always. The pants are especially good.

So lovely. ^^ I adore the shading! I'd love to do art of Ani some day.

Only one complaint- His neck line is completely straight- but that's just stylistic, ingore me. ^^ I love it, it's gorgeous. Your pieces always have so much mood and emotion in them.

Thank you! I really try to put some emotion in my work. I'm glad it gets through!

His neck line does have a slight curve to it, but I can see where you're coming from. I'll have to work on it.

And hey, I'd love it if you did art of Ani, too!

I adore his hair, and the mood for this pic seemed kinda muggy and hot.
How on earth do you get your lineart so nice????
As for critique... I would kind of like to know what the heck he's staring at. At the moment it looks like a balcony built against a wall. Maybe just something would have been nice (street, view, ect.)

Yep! That's all!
Ps,
Love his hair!!!!!

*laughs* Let's see here... Muggy and hot feel? Goal accomplished!

I was a bit worried that it would look like a wall. I was trying for just a vague haziness (since Kit is lazy...). Not that I think he's really looking at the scenery... I might go back and put something in next time I'm looking for something to do.

As for the line art, this one was done in the sloooow way. Normally, I outline in Manga Studio, but that doesn't tend to be as smooth. This one, I outlined in Photoshop. The original outline was twice this size, done with the paintbrush at a 2 px diameter. I outlined the sketch, then reduced the pic to 50% its size. That gives the nice outline. It just takes a lot longer.

HUZZAH!!!

*laughs* And yeah, it can be, I guess. You also have to have a very steady hand, since even at 100% opacity, paintbrush lines usually have to be gone over a few times (note the brick). But it's the only way I've found so far of getting smooth, kinda soft lineart without any jagged edges.

Ugh, dog fur in sticky-heat. Ani is truly a kind and dedicated master, to be giving cuddles under such conditions.

Iiiinn a completely weird, slightly random 'artsy' comment, I love the look in Ani's eyes here.

*snrks* As we hear Ammut going, "Master? What master? Where? ... You mean Ani? Pfffft!"
