I took a series of snapshots with my point-and-shoot compact Polaroid camera, at night, with the Effects set on Negative, which is something i really love to do, coz it's a fun way for me to create abstract and surreal photo manipulations. This particular one i put thru Adobe Lightroom - and while people have told me that Lightroom is only for organizing photos, i can tell you, that if you go into Lightroom's "Develop" setting, you will be astounded at the kind of control you can have over your images, including filtered presets. However, I love to experiment, and take things to extremes, and do things the creators of the app did not intend, and thus create my weird art. Also, you can create your own presets, which is super fun.

So, anyway, i took this photo, and had too much fun with it in Lightroom, and honestly, made a ton of diff manips, many of which i feel could be worked with and made postable, and even printable, and maybe even salable. However, figuring out which ones those are is really hard, coz i get very excited when i work in Lightroom, and i will literally make a hundred different versions of one photo, and then I'll even take a version I already worked on, and make another dozen off that one. So, there's just way too many to choose from, and i'm sorting thru them now, working on them, and posting the finished ones here and on Instagram. After working on this one in Lightroom, I also manipulated it using Image Tricks - this amazing free photo editing software for Macs that I found online - and I also tweaked it using my Macbook Pros basic editing software, which is part of the Preview program. It got over 100 likes on IG, where my average lately is in the high 60s, so that's pretty good So, I wanted to see how it would do here.

This work is really more about shape, color and mood, rather than having any specific social or psychological theme, it's about how color and shape can effect our emotions. What colors make us feel good? What shapes? I think people find seashells pleasing, the ridges, the feeling of the beach they inspire. Many people love to collect rocks, they're often used for landscaping (which is what this is a photo of, actually). Leaves are so indicative of autumn, which is not my fave time of year, but they also bring up the beautiful, cyclical utility of nature, how things start as small, micro sized thingies, and then grow, and bloom, wither and die, but once they hit the ground and start to decompose, with their death they feed life. Leaves, when they fall at the base of a tree, provide fertilizer for that same tree, essentially, the tree is fertilizing itself with it's leaves. It's an amazing cycle, and I think it's so symbolic of the human desire to believe in life being everlasting, in some way at least. Which is ironic, cause in so many ways, we try to keep ourselves out of that cycle. Well, that's a lot to put on this piece, and certainly, there wasn't so much intentionality there, as there was a desire to choose photos that had a variety of shapes and objects in them, that would evoke different things for people, mostly, pleasant things. But in the back of my mind, there was definitely a thought about these lowly parts of nature, that make up the earth we walk on, and how they break down and decompose and feed life in that process.
