Description Common Redpoll
These little fellows can’t fail to cheer a person whether it be winter or summer. In the winter months the Redpolls appear to be so jaunty in their red caps seemingly floating across the snow, never sinking beyond their belly in soft snow or snowbanks. They appear to have very good winter survival skills, but they are in constant danger of running out of fuel and dying from hypothermia, so they are almost always eating, gleaning waste grain from bare fields or stocking up at winter feeders.

What a beautiful shot of a little Redpoll. I love the focus and soft colors you've captured on the bird.

Thank you so much...I am happy you liked this picture. A nice comment like yours makes it all worth while sitting out in the snow.

Beautiful bird, a splash of color for a long winter! Our spring has begun this week, all the fruit trees (peach, apricot, and almond) have bloomed. So my hay fever has begun as well~

Thank you!!!! These birds do bring joy into the winter months, especially the cold drab months. I shouldn't complain since this winter has been quite mild as to what we 'used' to experience...really nothing to complain about.

I'm not too sure that I feel sorry for you regarding the hay fever...LOL since you are 'rubbing in' the SPRING FACTOR!!!! We have three more months of winter regardless of when the 'official' spring date is. Ah well...I'm not really complaining because I have really been enjoying this winter for a change.

By the way...your gallery is outstanding!!! Love it!

Have you been watching the Olympics??? I am having a hard time pulling myself away from the TV. I don't normally watch TV other than news so this is rather a novelty for me.

Yeah, we've been watching the Olympics pretty closely. Sorry about that hockey thing, but I guess you got even in the ice dancing!! And I wouldn't be surprised if the Canadians win a hockey rematch...the running comment is that Canadians are such polite and wonderful people until you hand them a hockey stick...

You are so darned funny!!!!

Actually Canadians are extremely polite and for the most part pretty easy going on the surface...but...you are right!!!!...when it comes to hockey...well all bets are off, after all, it is 'our' game. To add to that, the Olympic rules should be NHL rules. So we'll put hockey sticks aside and stick with friendly people.

The Ice Dance...well what can one say! That was so perfectly skated, technically sound, but what made a huge difference was that the two were 'electric' and flowing to the point the feeling/emotion was tangible. That was something that was missing in the other dances, although they were skated technically perfect as well. It is too bad the former champions, Russians, and the fourth place US team loosened their vitriolic remarks. Very poor sportsmanship. The USA Silver Medalists who also skated perfectly were extremely gracious and did your Country proud. Ah well!

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the Olympics! Sorry I am so late answering.

I'm enjoying them, but my day was taken up with earthquakes and tsunamis. Stay warm!

How silly of me...yes of course you would be. That was a pretty harsh earthquake...8.8 WOW!

Warm I am...incredibly warm weather...not used to this weather at this time of the year.

Thank you Glen, and thank you for all the faves; your support means a lot to me, and you always send a smile and chuckle...those mean a lot!

You are right when you say we are lucky to have these birds...I am aware of this each and every day since they ease the cold temperatures, drab skies and short days through bringing warmth through color against grey, a smile and joy, as well as an audio experience that is awesome. They make winter months endurable and it is inexcusable for me to complain.

I take it that you have been watching the Olympics.
Are you enjoying them or have you too joined the media with groans? Personally I salute our athletes and feel very proud of each and everyone of them.

Joyce
