Description This is my portrait of the lovely actress, writer and feminist extraordinaire, Louise Brealey, who is most well-known for playing Molly Hooper in BBC's Sherlock.

This is also my contribution to the Twitter hashtag #MollyMatters . Not too long ago, Louise said in an interview that Molly was relatable among Sherlock's female fans because they also want to snog Benedict Cumberbatch and while I think we all know that she was joking, there are other reasons why Molly is such an important character.

For me, what makes Molly so important among female characters in the media is the fact that she isn't what most role-models are expected to be. She isn't socially confident, she isn't physically strong and she isn't conventionally pretty. She's shy and awkward, but she's also kind and intelligent. Like Jane Eyre and Sansa Stark, she has her own strength and gives a role-model to girls who are also shy, awkward and insecure. A lot of people mistake physical strength for good role-modeling in female characters, but characters like Molly prove that there are more ways than one to be strong. That, to me, is why Molly matters.

Yes, I have a twitter now. I'm ashamed of myself too.
