Description Frosty Retribution
They say that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Artist’s Comments:

This is going to be a lengthy set of comments since I’m not going to be able to get back online very much with summer rotations, so I’ll try to address issues which I can potentially envision now as I probably won’t be able to later. Feel free to note or email me, though. Because I can foresee possible anarchy reigning here after this artwork (and since my account is so revered by anti-fans (tee-hee)) I am going to disable comments on this piece since I won’t be around to monitor the nonsense nor enjoy the entertainment value of posturing hypocrites. Again, though, note or email me, and I’ll be happy to ignore you that way instead.

I don't like Frostbite. I don't like him at all. I don't like him for what he did to Danny in ‘Urban Jungle’ - not just stripping him as a “joke”, but for the humiliating way he "trained" him in front of a gawking, purposeless audience, then failed to go help him when the poor kid made it so clear that his entire planet was in dire peril. I haven't seen ‘Infinite Realms’ yet, and if my view of fish-breath changes after that, I may do a re-retribution piece, but for now, I was curious to explore what might have happened in ‘Urban Jungle’ if Danny hadn't been quite so good-natured about Frosty's coldness (no pun intended) in taking advantage of him while he was in such a helpless and desperately needful state, then heartlessly leaving him to his fate afterwards.

As we’ve seen in many episodes, Danny strives to see justice served and often returns like-with-like. He also seems to appreciate cruel irony, and the karma of “what goes around comes around”. This artwork is an extrapolation of that, and how I felt he might gain retribution for the undeserved embarrassment and mean humiliation he was subjected to at the callous claws of Frosty. This is not meant to be a slam on the show or Butch; it's just a tongue-in-cheek, dark-humor expression of my personal dislike for a particular character’s designed moral fiber (or lack thereof) and how I felt the hero might react to such uncalled-for treatment.

Now, despite my healthy distaste for the monster -- and my hunch that Danny harbored some ill feelings for what his tormenter did to him, too -- Frosty is not dead here. He is heavily sedated with a cocktail of anesthetic agents and chemical paralytics -- notice the tranquilizer dart protruding from his derriere? While chemically paralyzed, Danny arranged the lummox as a rug, and, since turn-about is fair play, is contemplating whether to "fix" Frosty's coat the same way Frosty claimed was necessary for Danny: by removing it. While musing on this, Danny figured he would let the critter get a taste of being put on display as he had enjoyed doing with Danny -- only instead of in a fish tank or in an arena full of dispassionate hecklers, as a rug.

Now, of course Danny is way too nice a guy to filet anyone, but he's also exceedingly modest about his body (he swims in a tank top for crying out loud). We’ve also seen him filled with righteous indignation when crossed or taken advantage of (remember his anger at Ember in ‘Fanning the Flames’ for mucking about with him and his feelings?). From this evidence, I feel it safe to assume that he didn't exactly appreciate Frosty's little pranks at his expense. Further proof of this was demonstrated by the comments he made (eg: “Is this really necessary?” and “Where are my clothes?!” ), and actions (eg: attempting to cover his exposed underpants/private areas poor dear when he first realized he was nearly nude and on display) indicating that he was mortified during both the tank scene and for being put on exhibition in an arena packed with catcalling spectators as a comedic diversion for Frosty’s ogling minions.

From all this, and based on Danny’s basic personality traits, I decided to explore that humiliation-induced indignation. Clearly, Danny did not have the luxury of time in ‘Urban Jungle’ to get mad at Frosty while Earth was being obliterated, but, what might he have done if he had? I’m rather certain that he’d have had some choice words and/or actions for the creature’s ignominious behavior toward him, especially considering how gratuitous it was. If this is how the beast treats people (children, no less) coming to him to beg for help, I shudder to think what he might do to souls who wander into his realm due to a simple mistake or *shudder* what he might do to his actual enemies….

But I digress.

While Danny wouldn’t skin him, I felt our hero would not be above letting the furball sweat it out -- which he's doing (note the sweat droplet dribbling down Frosty’s temple). In-kind to the degrading way he was treated, Danny also confiscated horn-head’s clothes while he was unconscious. There were some "burrs" there too, you see, that Danny needed to “wash out”. *snort*

Maybe after this little wake-up call, fangface will think twice the next time he wants to demoralize someone, let alone a painfully shy kid just trying to save the world. Everything Frosty did to “heal” and train our hero could have been done without the denigrating side-actions, which were plainly a bad-taste attempt at humor in that episode. I suppose I should actually be miffed at the writers, but really I am more irritated with the results of their writing as expressed in the character’s personality traits and actions, so Frosty gets the brunt of this one.

Now, did I want Frosty to not help Danny and just leave him to die in the snow? Certainly not. But I don’t think that it was too much to ask that he help the kid in a way that didn’t privately embarrass him, publicly humiliate him, then cruelly abandon him to almost certain doom once he left.

As for aspects of the piece itself, Frosty’s fleshless arm is missing its ice due to the heat in the room. After positioning his tranquilized hearth mat for something useful (footstool), Danny cranked up the heat and stoked a roaring fire to relax and warm up, causing Frosty’s arm to melt in the toasty den. The beast is also sweating up a storm wondering if Danny will make good on his threat of skinning him (Danny’s reading a Taxidermy book to further the rouse), which is also contributing to the melting of his ice parts. I suppose his horns and tail spikes or whatever those things are should also have melted too, but for some reason they struck me as more permanent structures than the ice of his arm. The fire is partly green since this realm is partly in the Ghost Zone, which is also why Danny has a green sheen to his highlights. He’s drinking British tea with a slice of blackberry pie as a snack to recuperate and regain some of his strength after his physical and emotional smack-down by the walking carpet, while enjoying an informative read on how to skin nasty animals. He destroyed the tank to prevent Frosty from playing any more pranks on unsuspecting folks through putting them on display in the buff for his amusement. He’ll take out the arena next. I also couldn't remember exactly what Frosty or the tank thing looked like either, so I improvised. Sue me if I'm way off.

In summary, and regardless of everything else, I do realize that this piece is a trifle mean, and I do apologize for that. The next artwork I do will be a little more charitable and a little more magnanimous, I promise.
