When you think about it, I think Takashi-san ran out of hair-style ideas when starting to draw Atem. He probably thought, "Suppose if I made Yugi and Atem have similar hair, what would the fans think?"
To test his curiosity, he gave both of them similar hair styles. And hence how they both have the wrath of pointy hair. XD
