“Well then!” I say putting some bills down on the table, “I’m off to study. Good luck on the test tomorrow night.”
“Why do you force yourself, Light? As Kira, it is really not appropriate for you to wish me luck on anything.”
Damn, him…
“Well, that must mean I’m not Kira, eh?” I flash a smile.
“No. That proves nothing.” L replies with a straight face.
I laugh and punch L lightly on the shoulder. “As if I’d think that’d be enough for you to not suspect me, do you take me for a fool?”
“Yes. Yes, I do. A smart fool, but a fool all the same.”
I chuckle, “What is that suppose to mean? Anyhow, don’t you ever study?”
L shrugs. “I think you and I have a different idea on what the word, “study” means.”
“Well, I’m going to do my own studying, you should really do the same, Ryuzaki. Later.” I give a small wave as I leave the café.
Now then, as much as he’d hate to admit, it seems as if L thinks of me as a friend. And if that’s the case, it’s only a matter of time before our friendship will blind him. Blind him so, that he’ll forget about me being his “suspect.”
As I begin to walk, I think of L more. I think about how, right now, and especially lately, he’s the only person I’ve been spending time with. It’s a bother really, having to watch what I say, and think carefully before replying all the time.
“Why are you smiling?” I hear a grunt from behind.
It’s only then, I remember Ryuk beside me.
“What are you talking about?” But even as the words leave my mouth, I feel myself bringing a smile to a frown.
“Just now, you had the biggest smile on your face.”
I ignore Ryuk, and keep walking.
“Hey, are you enjoying spending lots of time with L? It’s weird, I thought he was your enemy, but especially lately, you’ve seemed… happy about spending time with him. I can’t tell whether it’s an act or not.”
“Of course it’s an act, Ryuk. Don’t be so stupid.” I spit.
“Humans… are so... interesting.”
“Shut up!”
“Woah, there’s no need to be angry. And don’t forget, you promised you’d swing by the store and pick up more apples.”
I sigh, and take the way leading towards the grocery.

“I’m home!” I call, walking through the doorway. Misa greets me.
“Misa, What are you-”
The phone rings suddenly.
I pick it up and try to push Misa away, but still, she clings to me. I sigh. “Yes, this is Light speaking. Noon, tomorrow? Okay then, see you then.”
“Who was that?” Misa asks.
“L. He wants to meet around noon at his place tomorrow. Says we need to discuss-”
“Noon, tomorrow? Oh but, Liiight! You promised we could spend tomorrow afternoon together!”
“Misa-”
“Well, we still have tonight, right??”
“Actually, I need to study and then go to bed. Wake me before noon tomorrow, okay?”
“Awww, Light!” Misa begins to pout.
“Listen, Misa, I need to score good on the test tomorrow, and you wouldn’t want me to lose sleep, right? Now be a good little girl and go off to bed now.” I give her a kiss.
“Alrightt. For you, I’d do anything! Goodniiiight, Light! See you tomorrow!” Misa giggles like a little girl and runs off.
“Wow, you sure know how to handle the ladies, Light. How about that apple now?”
I toss Ryuk an apple and sigh. “I suppose. Just another obstacle in the way… well, can’t be helped I suppose.”

I began the walk to L’s.
“So, what are you two going to discuss?” Ryuk asks.
I don’t reply.
“Oh, yeah, no talking in public, right? I keep forgetting.”
I look to my right and see three boys not far away, one pushing the smaller boy down, another taking his wallet from his back pocket.
If only I could get rid of them. I think.
“I’m getting bored, Light. Nothing has happened lately except you and L. L and you. You might as well be dating at this point.”
“Shut up!” I yell, and everyone walking around me turns to stare. “Damn, Ryuk.” I mumble, and begin to jog, trying to ignore the stares.
“Wow, you really took it out on me. Why don’t you take it out on L instead? If he was really your enemy, you’d-”
“He’s a guy, Ryuk. And, yes, he’s my enemy. So, don’t be stupid.”
“That doesn’t mean anything. And besides, humans are interesting. I have a feeling something’s going to happen today.” Ryuk chuckles.
“What are you saying?” I ask, but even as the words leave my mouth, I know that Ryuk has noticed. It’s me that just can’t accept it.
But by now we have almost reached L’s, and Ryuk knows better than to try and talk to me.
L opens the door and beckons me in.
I take a seat on a chair, and L takes the couch.
“Now then,” He says plopping a sugar cube in his mouth, “did you get lots of studying in last night?”
“Chatting it up, isn’t he?" Ryuk laughs.
“Odd of you to ask something like that, Ryuzaki , everything okay?” I reply with a smile.
“Of course. Simply trying to lighten the mood with some idle chitchat, as friends would do.”
“Ah, so you do consider me as a friend?”
“Why, yes. Yes I do.”
“I’m glad. And, yes, I did study last night, and you?”
“A bit, perhaps… sugar cube?”
“Wow, this guy never gives away his sweets, you’d better take him up on the offer, Light.” Ryuk laughs.
“No thanks, I’m not much one for sweet’s actually.” I chuckle.
L shifts his position, and I can tell he wants to get down to business.
“Now then, I am curious to know, what are you thinking regarding the latest Kira-”
But I just can’t take it anymore.
It hits me all at once.
The longing.
For him.
I reach my hand out and tilt his chin up.
I kiss him.
He leans away for a moment, and forming a fist with his right hand, he lifts it up and rests his chin on it.
“Light, my deductive and reasoning skills, lead me to believe that what you just did… must indicate some sort of feelings towards me. Now-”
“Shut up.” I mumble.
L leans forward. “Excuse me, what?”
“Just, shut up.”
There’s silence.
“Just shut up and kiss me.” I say a little louder.
L’s eyes widen.
I hear Ryuk give a small laugh in the corner.
I look down and hope I’m not blushing.
This is so unprideful. I must stop this at once, what has gotton into me?
I shake my head.
“Never mind that,” I gather some documents in my hands, “Let’s continue work-”
L stands, and grabs my hand, pulling me onto the couch.
The papers drop to the floor.
“What are you-”
He leans over me and with that smirk plastered on his face says, “You did say you wanted me to kiss you, now didn’t you?”
I squirm beneath him , and closing my eyes, I turn my head.
“Not going to answer? Fine by me.”
I feel L’s soft lips against mine as L begins to kiss me,
I’m surprised, I wouldn’t imagine L being the kissing type, nor do I believe he has every been in a relationship, but for a guy that’s never kissed… He’s good. Too good. Wait-
But he’s a guy, and L What are you thinking, Light? Stop this!
I open my eyes and push L away. He looks surprised, and I don’t know what to say.
“I don’t… I don’t know what got into me, don’t take anything that has just happened here seriously. Let’s just get back to work.”
“Hmm, it’s funny. How, one moment you were so eager, yet the next, you are quick to run away. What are you afraid of, Light? This, I must ask.”
“Afraid? You think I’m-”
“Then kiss me.” L says, bring his head close to mine so that our foreheads are touching. “If you’re not afraid, then kiss me, Light.” He whispers.
Damn it! The bastard.
I try to sit up, but L pushes me back down. “You think you can get away now, Kira?”
“Damn, you! And calling me Kira too, we’ve been through this! I’m not-”
“You know, the police task force is due here soon. We should make the most of the time we have left, wouldn’t you say?”
His lips lock onto mine, and I know there’s no getting away this time.
And besides, I was the one that started it in the first place. And I can’t pretend, and say I’m not enjoying this…
The feeling of L’s body against mine, his lips on mine is… well… amazing.
And so I let myself fall into the kiss, and be touched by L.
I let out a small moan as he begins to trail his kisses down my neck.
After all, what’s the worst that could happen? I’ve already lost my pride, pretty much, so I’ve got nothing left to lose at this point.
“Light? Liiiiight!” I feel someone shaking my shoulder suddenly. I open my eyes and find myself lying on top of my bed, Misa standing over me, looking ridiculous in some slutty get up.
“Oh, Liiiiight! You told me to wake you, remember? Something about a meeting with L, then the task force? You fell asleep… oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to wake you, and you had just the cuteeest smile ever on your face! I bet you were dreaming about me, huh, Light?”
“Misa,” I growl, rising from the bed, “what time is it?”
“Around Eleven thirty, why? Oh Light, do you absolutely haaave to go now? Don’t you have a little time to spare??” Misa moves towards me seductively, then grabs me and pulls me into a kiss.
I push her aside.
“No. Not today. I have to leave.” I walk out into the hallway, and hurriedly put my coat on.
“Aw, Light! Do you have to be so-”
“Don’t wait up.” I open the door.
“Wait, Liiiight!”
I slam the door and lean against it.
Now then, I think, time to make that dream come true.
