No, he never had peace. He wanders the shores of Arda to this day, singing his song of mourning... Sigh... I love the way that ended. Makes you wonder if you might meet him wandering the beach someday. Sniffle... And now I'm going to cry because I feel so bad for him.

I don't think he ever did. His gentle temperament coupled with the evil that he did in the service of his Oath was a contradiction that no one could possibly reconcile. But only Mandos knows.
