how i know is that i played the game and i wanted female, not male (because then i thought males where stuid...until i found out) then at the part when you can find out if your pokemon love or like or dislike you, the females where like and my bulbausur (didn't evlove until level 30) and it was a male and he loved me. that might be why you set her pokemon to be a male.

Usually I have a set personality in mind for every Pokemon, Luxray's personality just suited a male better... Reika's entire Sinnoh team ends up being male though, haha!
