Really? I though it was to describe someone ... like if you say Konohamaru it would mean he's from Konoha or something... I never really understood what "maru" meant anyway... but isn't "kun" just for boys, too and I've seen it being used on girls, too

Sort of, "Maru" is an adding to give a boys name a more masculine sound. Like Konohamaru, its Konoha( His home Village)+Maru( A Male end to a name). Same with Shikamaru, Shika means Deer, but when you add Maru to it, you can use it as a boys name. -studying Japanese-. P:
