hehe maybe i will draw you some? they're really fun but more time consuming than digital. XD
who would you like if I do draw you one? cause i always have a hard time picking from your characters.

thank you!

Daww you're really sweet and I would be honored to have more art from you, but I mean that you've inspired me to drop money I shouldn't on traditional art supplies.  I've been looking at similar drawings by others for a while and been amazed at how they have this 3d effect.  Now that you're doing it I want to try it too.D8

Yessss being so time consuming is why I keep coming back to digital.  I actually get annoyed with traditional now, cause my hand gets in the way.Dx  I wonder if it's worth dropping 40 bucks on...  Is 24 prisma colours enough of a selection?  I hear they blend well...

ahhhh gotcha.
lol yeah it can be expensive but i think it's well worth the money, especially if you can sell them. c:

Exactly, and I can't get things perfect so that also drives me insane. I can hardly draw traditionally anymore but I want to get back into it so my skills don't completely rot.
Omg, they blend beautifully. ;u; As long as you don't set the colors with a fixative of the colorless blender, you can pretty much keep adding color upon color. I think a 24 set would be great! It's got the basic range of colors and since you can blend the colors together you can make more colors. c: I have a 48 set that Liz gave me for Christmas a few years ago plus I have a 12 set of the Verithins from Prismacolor that I bought back in highscool. They have a harder led so they're really nice for lining and details but getting dark color out of them can be really hard at times. If you don't want to spend that much money on Prismacolors you can always use Crayola. They're more waxy they will build up a lot of wax which will make it harder to add more colors/blend as you go further along. You also won't be able to use white as strongly as you would with a Prismacolor. But it's a cheaper alternative and I used them for years before I started digital. I'm not sure how well Crayola pencils would work on toned paper since they're not as pigmented.

I think since I'm able to sell my cheebs decently, it shouldn't be too hard to be able to sell traditional for a little more, just gotta build up the skill.

Yes, the thing I miss most about digital is cropping to resize/move things around.  And it's funny, while I'm drawing, my fingers keep searching for crtl+s to save my work.xDDD  Ok, I sure hope so.  Part of me wants to spend the extra to get a larger set, but if it ends up rotting like my needle felting and clay, at least I'll have spent less...  No no, I am so sick of cheap pencils.xD  I have some really colourful stuff I did way back with pencils cheaper than crayola, really enjoyed them, they took me 3 days each, but I am never using those again..  And actually, I was thinking based on how slow I lineart, traditional might take about the same time honestly.  I'm getting a white gel pen to outline my stuff and make it pop too, and the tan toned paper because I like warm colours best, at least it looks kinda browny warm... if I get it...

Do you have to spray something on top of it when you're done?

yeah. i was considering selling them as well but i need to get my skills back and practice some more as well.

lol same here, except it's the ctrl+z i'm always looking for XDDD
yeah it's best to go with a small set when you're just starting.
you might not even have to do lineart at all i didn't do any lineart for this one.
i just colored over my sketch and used the pencils to sketch in some darker lines so it wasn't so blurry.
i need to get another white gel pen. i lost my other one. =/ all i have right now is white acrylic paint and a white out pen. XD
ahhh i need to get tan toned paper to. i just got the grey cause the small sketchbooks were on sale at michael's a few weeks ago for  $1.99 a piece so they were super cheap. I think they're normally $7-8 for a 5 1/2 x 8 inch sketchbook(which is the size I have).

you don't have to but if you plan on shipping them or just having people look at them it's best to so the colors don't smear or so oil from people's hands don't ruin them.
you can use a workable or permanent fixative. workable ones will let you make changes to the piece but it's not going to be as easy as it was before. permanent won't let you change anything.
the stuff i used to use in high school was the Krylon Workable Fixative. it's what my art teacher had and my work's from high school are still looking good. c: my parents have a charcoal drawing i did in their room and it looks the same as when i made it.

Good luck with it!  It looks like so much fun, I decided for sure to get some.  I actually forgot I have credit left on Amazon from my birthday, I think I'm gonna get a 48 set of premier and a 36 set of verithin.  But do the Verithin really make a huge difference for detailing?  Maybe I'd be better off waiting on them...  Ooh no lineart is an interesting idea, like painting but with pencils?  ermg that sounds so fun...  And the thing I miss about traditional art, is the smell and feel of paper and pencils...

Oh wow that's a great price on the book, these things are expensive from what I see.xD  I'm going to get that same size, and in a spiral so hopefully I can easily tear out the pages and trim the edge off...  only 50 pages though, would make me so nervous to draw anything...

Errrmmm I think I will go with the permanent fixative, it's cheaper than the other for some reason.  I only looked at prismacolor brand though, I figure it should work well...  That's amazing your picture looks so pretty for so long.  I think I got everything picked out, even a set with a kneaded eraser, blender stick, pencil extender, sharpener... just gotta compare prices between amazon/ebay/walmart...  Right now on amazon it's like $90 altogether, but I got $40 left on my gift card.^^

I want to make drawings like this artist, the way they pop off the page: danniichan.deviantart.com/gall…

Thanks! ^^ Ohhh yay credit! I would wait on the Verithins. Not need to spend extra money right now. They do help with details but you can do the same with the normal pencils.  Yep, exactly! It makes things look softer and when you use the white gel pen it'll still pop! ^^ From what I can tell, a lot of artists don't use lineart at all. Omg yes ;u; I love the smell of paper and pencils.

Yeah, Strathmore is expensive but the paper quality is really nice so it's worth it. My only complaint is the paper doesn't really have a tooth too it(texture). It's very smooth and I prefer paper with a slight bit of tooth but it's hard finding that kind of paper. Yes, spiral for sure! So much easier to work with. c: The paper is really thick so you can probably even use marker if you want as well. I tried a fine point sharpie on one of my pages and it didn't bleed at all.  I also recommend drawing as big as you can. I tend to draw smaller and it helps to draw bigger so you can really get the details in.

Any brand of fixative should work. ^^ I actually picked up a can today along with a white gelly roll pen and a book of tan tone paper. c: ooooo kneaded erasers are fun! i have one somewhere and so are blenders ;u; i actually lost all my blenders but whatever. XD i learned to use use a tissue and wrap it around my finger. Works really well for graphite/charcoal.

AHHHH DANIICHAN I LOVE HER
She's my main inspiration! ;u;

I am really excited to try this...  Do you still want to do a digital painting challenge btw?  We could do a traditional one too/instead whenever I get my supplies, probably in a week, if I decide I actually like them...

And speaking of blending, I was looking up all kinds of different techniques, this lady uses Mona Lisa brand paint thinner and the result is gorgeous, but I saw someone else use plain old baby oil and I am intrigued, may try it...

But then again, there's so many different styles to try with this pencil stuff, I also like how light and sketchy this artist is: xky.deviantart.com/gallery/?ca…

I'm excited too! I know whatever you draw will look awesome!
I still want to do the digital painting challenge. I was actually going to note you about it in a little bit. XDD
Just because I know I'm more likely to do digital than traditional on a steady basis.

Never heard of those techniques. o_o But they sound cool.
I just blend the pencils together by layering color and using small circular motions when I color.

Ahhh their work is so whimiscal. ;u;
I would probably suck at that.
I love thing with lots of contrast so I'd probably go nuts trying to keep things soft.
