Description

Hey there ^^

Another one of my attempts.... This is a super super old one! (No boarder!)

I was wondering if:
It bothers you because it's grainy/small

You find it dull (because of the lack of colour)

You would like something else in focus

and anything else you might think of.....

I liked this one a while back but looking at it again makes me think "what..... Why did I think it was good before?"

haha please tell me what you think ^^

(Note: No alterations except crop and B&W)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

^^

Dandelion fixed- B&W

sorry I know it's a little grainy....

^^

enjoy~

Thanks so much! Yes, I love macro images for that reason! Sometimes close up things look so much different.

I agree. It seems like another world sometimes.

First glance on the thumbnail I totally thought it was a extremely well taken macro of ice or snow. Turns out to be an equally well taken macro of a dandelion!!! And if you're looking for something to reduce the grainyness (noise), check out some Apps by the names of NoiseNinja and Noiseware. Two very good programs for reducing noise. No need for thanking me :]

Hope you had a happy holiday~

I really like this piece. It has a nice soft texture that I can almost feel and I agree with others that color would have been distracting. The framing is perfect, in my opinion.

I tend to like my photos less and less as time goes by. I think that's probably a combination of our tendencies to be self-critical and a sign of our growth as an artist. You're probably producing better images now than you did then. Consider it a good thing but this image is still outstanding.

Great compostion here! I love the placement of the subject, the black and white, and the crop. My only suggested would be to sharpen it just a little bit so the viewer's eye is drawn it.

Like many others I didn't notice the grainy, and the size is fine. I do really like the way it is lit, I think it adds depth to the seeds as they are about to be released. Nice one.

hi.

i see a lot of comments saying 'black and white', but iS this black and white? or was it just natural lighting/desaturated mostly.? i feel hints of blue, subtle cold blue morning-light.. (the light is beautiful - you've used it delicately) also i love your choice of framing, background and subject split daigonally, and such fine soft details on the feathers.. very very good shot

Thanks so much ^^ And yes it is black and white however, perhaps my program didn't do well in converting it to black and white? I do see what you mean by the subtle hints of blue though!

Again, thanks for the feedback! Happy holidays!

I really love the detail in this picture, and i couldn't see the graininess of it, so wouldn't really worry about it

The white against the black really works as well, as does the focus. Well done

The black and white works very well for this because it brings out the details and the sheen of the dandelion parachutes or whatever they are called.
I don't think it would work as well in colour.

The crop draws you into the picture and makes it more intriguing than a photo of the whole floer (probably).
I don't mind the small size, either.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the picture! The size is fine, and in my opinion it isn't grainy or blurry. The photo is great- simple and beautiful. Maybe you were thinking it was good earlier because it was good.

eldestmuse [2009-12-19 05:55:38 +0000 UTC]

I liked it. I didn't think it was too small, but rather a good size given the subject matter and the lack of other items in the piece. I think that there's just the right amount of detail; the spider-web hints of the dandelion puffs would lose some of their allure if this was any bigger. I didn't notice a particular problem with graininess although it did seem a bit blurry.

I love the details in this picture - and I'm not a big fan of borders, so no problems there I don't think it's too grainy

Lovely focus, it let's the eye relax

I didn't see the graininess at all until you pointed it out. It doesn't bother me. What I would suggest is to amp up the contrast a bit--that might make it easier to see the details on the flower/web thing. I think black and white was a perfect choice for this piece. Amazing capture I just wish we could see more of the flower!

I love how soft this picture is! Because of its... I guess the technical term is grainy-ness, it just comes across a lot more softer. Just like the dandelion is.

I love the focus and where you cropped it as well, its just such a beautiful macro photo.

The lack of color does not make it boring, in fact it pulled me in more to look at all of its details and there are lots of those in there. It looks so much like a bunch of spider webs spun together. Its so pretty.

I'm sorry I'm bad with critique. Haha. Hope this helped.

First it looked like champagne glasses in a circle but maybe that just was one of my wishes i have haha
I think the whole idea and result is great and the background fit in very well.I focus on the center and i like it.

Really good job

I don't mind the smallness. I often resize my pictures pretty small, but that's because I have a slow dial-up connection and they upload quicker. I really like the way the, actually, I have no idea what they're called, but they remind me of a web, and I think that's quite cool. The focus I like and I also like that it is in black and white. It makes it more simple, I think.

Hmmm... the picture itself seems very cool. But it seems, when you were taking it, your camera was just slightly too high. I want to see lower down on the dandelion, but other than that, the focus, composition and size are great!

KiwiKassa In reply to Wheatart [2009-12-18 03:37:43 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh If that's the case I will re-crop ^^ I cropped the original because I didn't want the rest of the dandelion in there.... but I'll think about adding in more!
