I photographed little Odie a couple of weeks ago. We got some awesome shots, and he had a blast sprinting around with his favourite toy. Too cute!Related content

Odie's only a tiny dog even now he's fully grown, so probably no Kelpie. I think he's a Foxy X Chihuahua from memory?

I used to struggle with these images too but once I learned a few tricks it all fell into place.
I shoot images like this using automatic focus with the centre focus point (I find it the most sensitive on the Canon 60D) in AI Servo Mode. Manual focusing would also work but you would need to be extremely fast and accurate! I use back button focusing (more info on that here digital-photography-school.com… to keep my focus locked on the dogs head as they move and take a couple of shots to get the best timing possible. This technique works with any lens, though it is probably easier with zoom lenses such as the 70-200 that I use as you are able to adjust the composition of the image as the dog is moving towards you.

Well, I told you I would let you know when I tried the technique you use and here I am! It took a bit long because I'm a procrastinator, but I took plenty of photos and the results amused me a LOT!
