Description I finally got to watch Guillermo del Toro's new film, The Shape of Water, while I was on a trip. I fell in love with this film! Very beautiful! It kinda gave some "Beauty and the Beast" vibes. I loved it.

This film is about a mute girl who works as one of the cleaning ladies at top secret government laboratory during the Cold War. She meets a strange amphibious creature that is being held in captivity and later develops a close bond between them.

And remember this lovely fairytale is NOT for young audience, unlike Beauty and the Beast. The movie is rated "R" for many reasons, you know: nudity, sexual content, bad language, and violence + gory (few scenes aren't very pretty lol They can make you look away. *shudders* Damn that gore).

Despite all that, this movie is amazing with beautiful music and special effects! Sally Hawkins did a stunning performance as the main character that she didn't even speak any word in the film (except one scene, but that was inside her mind). Just the sign language and her emotions. Wow Doug Jones did an amazing job playing as a nonhuman creature "The Asset", as always! Love his work!

FROM THE JOURNAL OF GABRIEL VAN HELSING:

"How do you kill a god?

My travels take me deep within the Amazon. A river god lives them. An eldritch abomination that has been seducing and kidnapping the local women.

This supposed "god" looks like a fish/human hybrid to me. He leaves behind a trail of blood.

Gods don't bleed.

I will find this false god, and I will gut him, just like I would any other fish.

Some of the locals are trying to sway me from killing him. Their please are in vain. My cause is just, my will is strong, and I will not stop until all the monsters plaguing the world are dead."

I love these two.  This film deserved to win way more awards than it won at the Oscars, but I'm really glad that it finally won del Toro the best picture Oscar that he's deserved since Pan's Labyrinth over ten years ago.

Me too. ^^

I'm happy this film won some awards especially the Best Picture award. I think Sally Hawkins and Doug Jones deserved to win awards for their amazing work in the film. >3>

I too think they deserved to win awards for their performances.  For the guy who dates me in the future, I'll have him sit through this movie with me.  If he cannot see the magic of using language (or lack thereof), the rebellion of minorities (in ways large and small) against the "white, cisgender, heterosexual, middle class, male" antagonist, and the realization that compassion and empathy are universal, not limited to race, gender, sexuality, or even species, he has no place in my life.

This looks lovely! I've been wanting to see this movie soon, I love so many of his films. They capture the scary side of most fairy tales while still maintaining a dark beauty.

Del Toro has a knack for taking your average "gore" and stepping it up so you're like "OH NO." XD He always surprises me, but in a good way. Really love his work so much, and 'Shape of Water' was A M A Z I N G!

I'm so happy you like the movie, too!! This is a beautiful image. Great job! <3

LOL very true
I didn't mind about the gore at the beginning because that villain deserved that. lol But oh geez...that gore near the end of the film. Haha! XD

You're right about that, he is too good at surprising the audience. Haha And I love it. Love him.

I know right? This film is so stunning! I'm so looking forward to getting that DVD!

Aww thank you so much! I'm planning to draw more of them!

Well not everybody. Sure, we have this movie coming out in our country but it's always annoying to find this film not showing in movie theaters near us. My local movie theater don't have it. So that's why I took a chance to watch it in one of the small theaters in one of big cities.
Not all of my friends here had seen it yet. Some of my friends had to wait for the movie to come out because they're in different countries. >3>

True. I'm probably talking about everyone I know, it sucks that we don't have it in Indonesia, I'm not even sure if the DvDs are out yet.

Ooo damn, tough question... My favorite design that he's ever created is the Angel of Death from Hellboy 2. But I also adore the Kaiju and Jaegers from Pacific Rim. Like, every creature he makes is so cool
