HEY!!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and Congratulations on whatever you deserve to be congratulated about! (...how's THAT for an all-purpose greeting?)
Kate, my friend, this is absolutely your finest work, beautifully rendered, I am completely gobsmacked by it's wonderfulness! ----and keep in mind that I don't often allow my gob to be smacked like this. I have a very sensitive gob. You do what the truly great artists do----continue to get better and better, each new picture an improvement on the last, repeatedly exhibiting a dedication and love for the medium and subject matter that can only come from one place. Schenectady. ...no, no, I meant to say, the heart. Anyway, this is a beautiful holiday painting, and should you offer it as a print, kindly let me know...
...and speaking of let me know, since it sounds like you are changing locations (...still on the lam from the Feds,eh? You GO, girl!) I wonder if you would consider giving me (by note) an update on a new snail-mail address for you.
I wish you a Blessed and heartfelt Christmas with family, friends, or whomever is fortunate enough share your company this Holiday season, my dear friend KJL..................---Ric C.

Hello, I'm back..........
...Y'know, KJ, it doesn't surprise me that you would be thinking that I consider "...this painting?" among your best pictures, because I learned a long time ago that any artist worth his/her salt is NEVER ( or SHOULD never be) totally satisfied with a particular piece because perfection in art is an impossibility; there is always something that should be altered, improved upon, tweaked, etc, and even then it STILL remains unsatisfactory to its creator. "An artists NEVER finishes a painting, he just goes on to the next one." I agree with whoever said that, and it has certainly been my personal experience in my humble endeavors.
...however, as an OBSERVER, not creator, I CAN find perfection in a painting, sculpture, whatever, because I am not privileged to what the artist envisioned it to be and why he doesn't think the work lives up to that vision. And therefore I can look at this beautiful portrait you have created, the color choices you've made, the highlighting and composition, and conclude that this is ---to me--- among your finest works. What you consider flaws I apparently see as assets; your messy is my inspired.
...you are aware, certainly, that Vincent V G went through several periods of self-doubt and loathing and feeling that his pictures were rubbish, so, go figure. I have many times had the same feelings as you--"I can't BELIEVE someone is sending me compliments on THIS awful drawing!" But I have learned that they see it through their eyes, not mine, so I say thank you and move on to the next---infinitely better---drawing.
.........once again, Merry Christmas 2019 to you and friends and family, and thanks very much for the snail-mail contact. Now onward to 2020
Ric C.
