Description For the Natives

Photo Thoughts : Colorado is a place very rich in history, with many Native American tribes and Nations calling this home at one time. Some of which are ancient people, while others were not so far long ago, who still remain today. In fact, Colorado is actually named after a word in Native American Language (I THINK Arapaho ??) which means "Land Of The Colorful Sky" While shooting at The Garden of the Gods, I happened upon this structure which was newly completed, and gazed in awe at it. There was no name to it, nothing describing what it was, nothing telling why it was here....so new it was. However it gained my attention quite fast, and the architecture here harks back to Native American style, with it's 4 posts and Adobe style in the color and the roof, with the wood coming out at the corners. I believe that it was going to be dedicated to the Native Americans, after all, this is Garden of the Gods, a place that they once inhabited and consider sacred still to this day. Nothing else would explain the architecture style.....needless to say, it was gorgeous and I shot several shots of it.....

Photo Details I really wanted a shot that stood out for this, so I walked around several minutes, analyzing the angles, trying to figure out how the light worked best....and I ended up with this one. I actually went ahead and left the trashcan in...on purpose. Why? Well I wanted a sense of man in this, and also for scale. It also offsets the color and contrast some. I decided to process this in HDR using Photomatix with final output through LucisArt and Photoshop

Thoughts most welcome and print to come!

Great photo, rich colors and great shadows, however I feel that the scale is still pretty apparent without the trash can. Unless you were also going for some sort of irony on how Europeans' footprint is inescapable. Other than that I personally would rather not see it...

oh I don't know, everyone needs some "sense of man in nature" photos in their portfolios I like it myself, it becomes more dynamic and more of a statement than just the structure alone, it makes the viewer stop and think.....think conservation

Almost space age yet so old at the same time. I love here your leaving of the trash can in and use of HDR. You really do know how to make images stand out with it! With the mountains in the background and the man made structure/bin in the foreground there is a sense of the place in time and the timeless, man and nature and the melding of them all together! Awesome!

then its just a case of choosing how best to relate into digital format! I'm discovering just how amazing the eyes are through just how hard it is to capture what they actually see!

Love the detail you achieved in the stucco (and anyone who lives anywhere that stucco is prevelent will know that the darker sections are from a recent rain, not from any burning in on your part ).

Actually, there are a couple of these in the park, and would it burst your bubble too much to know that they are just shade structures for picnic tables and benches? I have never heard that about the origin of the name Colorado. I've always heard that it comes from the Spanish words for "the color red".

Ya know, I am not all that sure this one actually is a cover area though, there is nada under it and all around it is plackards describing what yer lookin at. I was just down there a couple weeks ago again and there nada there still, odd. Of course I also have a wonderful run in with some local yokal who was a complete asshat when I tried to watn him he was about to walk within 4 feet of a 10 point Buck.....did he listen? Nope, instead he wanted to sit there and argue with me about it.....some people

Hrm.... lovely tonemapping. And, well, If one thing makes me... sad about this whole thing is that such a rich culture as the native americans were slaughtered off..

Well, you absolutely nailed the textures in this, and at the very first glance it was like i actually FELT the wind even before i had read your caption. And i love it that you left the garbage can in the shot - the corner of the 'cement' the structure is sitting on points to it rather archly!
