where was this taken, it looks like you're flying with the birds themselves.

I took this photo from my window, at the 2nd floor. The birds were "circling" (don't know the right aeronautical term) in front of it. They were passing 1 or 2 meters away from me... Really fast!

I can see the point made by the previous commenter regarding the lack of detail throughout the bits of land... however, I believe that the graininess in those areas only adds to the remarkable pastel-like colors emanating from the sea and the sky.
It hints at the sort of misty haze that is very reminiscent (at least to me) of the ocean, and I think it acts as a soft and subtle backdrop to the hectic chaos caused by the birds' presence.
I think this is an excellent shot, and I'm glad those birds didn't get any closer... I've seen that Hitchcock film, so I never give them the benefit of the doubt

If the birds have gotten any closer they would probably smashed my lenses... lol I've got no tele, they where passing like 2 meters away from me, in "mach 2" lol... Maybe they were provoking me or something...

I couldn't agree more. There seems to be an overwhelming abundance of deep tones and/or black shadows in many forms of art. While I believe it can be effective and necessary in some situations, it is not always the best choice.
I really think this is beautiful just as it is. The soft tones and muted horizon just seem to make the water flow almost right into the sky. It reminds me of early mornings back in Barcelona when I lived there for a couple years. Ugh I miss it. Now I'm back in the States... worst decision ever.

the almost completely devoid of details in the middle right of the image (the blue part) tell that this image should be made much darker, up to around when you will barely see some details in it.
if you try this, you will then see appear a much more striking sunset than what you have here; this image is made to be much darker.
this will change the colors to something much more striking than what you see now.
aside from this criticism, it's a nice composition and subject. it pleases me a lot.

First of all, let me say that I really appreciate your criticism. I don't see this absolute positiveness of dA (and other internet niches) in a positive way. It's quite the opposite, this absolute positiveness makes us settle and never rethink our work, thus never evolve.
I think we're living on the dull era of false/political politeness. Everyone want to be pleasant so everyone is pleasant back. It takes us nowhere, we're stuck on a endless circle of ball licking, pardon my french.
Now, about your comment: I totally see what you mean by a "darker" and "more striking" processing. Maybe you're right about that. I'll definitely keep that in mind from now on (and I thank you for that). But I'm not sure if I agree. You see, the lights weren't dramatic at all when I did the shot. It wasn't a sunset. The background is the "end tip" of a very soft, cloudless, sunrise.
The overall brightness of the image is quite what I saw with the naked eye, not that I care of keeping that kind of detail after post-processing an image. I don't. Now it takes me to the part when I totally disagree with you. The part when say things like "this image should be...". I don't think it should be anything but what I want it to be.
You see, I'm no photojournalist, I don't want to show the reality. I want to show my vision of a better reality. Being poetic, I want to show the world "through my eyes". And lately (it definitely will change), I think the world should be all in pastel colours! I don't want black shadows, nor deep tones at all.
Well, I think that's it!

of course you're right; what i wrote was only a suggestion and the way i might have done it myself, my own point of view, but i'm not in your head and never will be.
when i wrote "this image should be...", it meant "according to the way i might have done it, taking into account the way i envisioned it; just my own interpretation.
i applaud the fact that you have your own ideas, just like i have mine, and i would not like it if you followed blindly what others say.
criticism should always be taken with a "grain of salt"; you take what you want/like, and reject the rest.
usually, my critiques are on the technical side, which is very different than doing it on the interpretation\personal taste side. this is much more risky than the former.
