This picture might prove that there is MORE THAN 1 cat skull monster in the movie.
As you can tell 2 still has his hat I'm guessing that 7 5 and 9 found it while trying to chase down the monster carrying 2 again, but found his hat possbily giving them a clue.

"We awakened Something..."
"Something terrible."

And so their journey begins!
