Great work, I love it! This rat is very cute and I've always liked the eyes of rats. They look so smart & friendly in some retarded way, haha. ^^ Plus, in this photo there's great work with light & shadow. It's really sharp too. It's nice to see someone taking great pictures of his/her rats, most time you see quite blurry shots when people want to take portraits of their pets.

I always try to take the best pictures I can.. IF they get blurry, I just delete them usually..
I´ve noticed that too, specially with rats, and I don´t like it much..
Specially people taking pictures through cage bars with no focus what so ever
It´s sad really, because the animals are probably so beautiful, but you can´t see it with blurry pictures

Yeah, they are so so so so so beautiful and people might not see that through cage bars, without the focus. In the beginning, when the rats were babies, I often took pictures through the cage bars because they didn't dare to come out, haha, but when they got older and more brave I tried not to do that because I had dozen of possibilities to get good pictures outside the cage. I mean, rats are social & lively creatures whom like to run around, so it's not impossible doing so.

I often take pictures through the cage bars, but that is no problem if you have the camera as close as possible to the bars
then the bars don´t show on the picture
I don´t have much possibilities taking pictures of one of my rats outside the cage, because she just zooms away and won´t sit still

Interesting capture. The curvature of the shadow adds a charming, albeit mysterious, aspect to the piece -- it's almost as if the rat is wearing a black hood.

Some black eyed rats have red eyes if you look closely enough. It's always a nice detail to watch at. Sometimes the blue or red stuff is more visiable, sometimes it is not

I've had rats since I was a little kid so I didn't really care about that back then because I thought it was rather boring and just normal to have a boggling rat. Never seen it as something unusual back then

I've made a lot of mistakes back then and nowadays I'd keep them in a different way. They were still lucky rats, I hope.
At least they didn't become ill on a regulary base. We lost quite a few because of tumors... and just one or two due to breathing problems. I used hay back then for bedding which is wrong.

When I first got rats, I used hay too, but not as bedding..
They never reacted to it tho, But once they got lice from it, so I stopped..
I think they were
I´ve lost one from unknown reasons(or as the vet said was wrong with him: a mild urineway infection.. bullshit..), and one from different problems adding up.. skin cancer, he had prostate cancer but got neutered.. and from HED.. The cancer was right by his nose, so if it grew, he wouldn´t be able to breathe..

I spent a lot of time with them and took care of the cage regulary so I think it was allright
Having a rat which got cancer is always troublesome and not knowing of the reasons why your rat died isn't great aswell... It's just so saddening that their lifespans are so short.

I didn´t think it was fair trying to take the cancer away, because it took him a long time to wake up from the neuter..

I think in such matters we have to listen to our hearts and do what we can do best: To take care of them and to keep them out of trouble. I'm sure you made the right decision back then... of course, it's never an easy choice. Don't think too much about it, it's an event of the past which you can't change now. Just take care of your recent rats and everything is allright.
