Description I made a collage. and then I copied it. and then I gave the collage away. and then I drew the copy of the collage. in pencil, so it became rather smudgy. then I got tired of it, because it didn't look finished(im sorry gareth). so then I scanned the copy. the marks on and around here face where made by the copy machine, because the glue had made the paper bulky. I think it makes a rather nice effect.

collages are the best

the glue does make an interesting pattern

Ah, well, I can't have it my way all the time, I guess. The glue-caused contours do look very good under the scanner light, though. I like it very much, but I still think I prefered the older one...sorry

that is quite all right. what I liked about this is that it had colour. But, I was expecting you to like the other one better actually, so I figured I could send you the original? As the very belated birthday present? if you want to

Sorry, just: Yes, please. No profanity.

YES, allright! great.

it is A4, how very exclusive that must feel to mail. and to recieve.

Well, the thing that I was working on for you, which I then decided I hated, and so will start again -- that was A4 size. I just figured it needed to be, for some reason.

How's Godzilla coming along, by the way? It's difficult, isn't it. I've finally finished mine, but it looks a little mongoloid.

I usually work in A4, but when mailing is involved, smaller stuff seems better. bending is sin.

godzilla is at a standstill. but I will write it down, so I won't forget it, and then I'll make it. soon.

I used to work only in A2, but that meant that I only finished one picture every 6 months, then I did some quick bits in A4, and then for the mailart stuff I've been doing A5 because it just seems more sensible, and I can get stuff done.

Don't fret, always time.

good gracious, A2 with your kind of detail work. that's pretty amazing.
I like to finish stuff. that's why I like smaller formats.

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-09 06:18:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I like to finish stuff too. I'm doing some art trading cards for a trade at the moment, and they only take about an hour each -- well, if you don'ty include the time I took to teach myself how to draw crows, that is. Or the time it takes to come up with ideas.

Klype In reply to grthink [2006-11-09 10:34:57 +0000 UTC]

theres always that. I never really take the time I use, but for a coloured drawing I have to sketch and then ink and then colour, which when considered, have to be a lot of hours. time flies by when you have fun, right?

the ideas are some bastards. I hate it when I have an idea, but can't manage to get it how I want, and then just have to give up. there's nothing more demotivating.

When I did 'Pangea' (which in my opinion was a aste of time all 'round) I kept a tally of how long it took me along the edge of the page -- I think it added up to 26 hours, or something. That's a whole day wasted, on somethnig I don't really like.

I have so mnay ideas, but I either don't have the talent or the patience to realise them. Maybe a little of both.

You live, you learn. Plus I've now got a benchmark for how long all the others took in reality.

Klype In reply to grthink [2006-11-10 18:40:31 +0000 UTC]

as opposed to how long they would have taken had you made them in a paralell dimension?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-10 23:16:45 +0000 UTC]

No, lol, compared to how long I think they took me... instead of saying, for 'Balls' for instance, 'It took me three months' I can instead safely say 'It took me somewhere between 25 and 50 hours, so somewhere between a day and two days'. And then people will say 'Wow, you should be more prolific' and I can say 'My genius comes in fits and spurts -- oh, but to work constantly!' and they will nod in sympathy and awe.

I think it sounds more artistic to say it took you several months - though that might be more impressive while using oil paint or similar.

though fifty hours isn't bad either. it makes it sound like you didn't sleep for three days straight.

EXACTLY -- when the truth was that I'd slip the pad out every now and agin from under the couch while I was watching TV.

Nope, because I've moved since I kept my pads under the couch. I keep them under the bed now. Ha ha!

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-15 20:57:45 +0000 UTC]

... because I'm not allowed to keep them under the couch here... stupid Amy. I draw at the table now though...it's made my lines a lot straighter.

Klype In reply to grthink [2006-11-16 19:41:49 +0000 UTC]

the dot dot dot sad face made you look quite upset. though straight lines are probably worth it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-17 09:14:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but using a table feels like cheating. My backs straighter now, though -- I tend to hold my face *just* above the page, and if the pad's on my lap then my spine has to arch scarily.

Klype In reply to grthink [2006-11-17 15:11:34 +0000 UTC]

me too. I can sit and draw for a while and then get terrible neck aches, and seriously don't undertand why. stretching helps. who would have thought you needed physical exercise to do art?

that's such a lie. I thank the guy who invented dishwashers for the invention of dishwashers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-18 13:40:23 +0000 UTC]

lol...

But just think -- would that man have been able to invent dishwahers had Jesus not died to save his soul?

Well, probably. But he'd have gone to hell when he died, whereas now it's about 50/50.

being such a clever guy, I don't think even the prospect of going down after death would scare him. he was probably an atheist anyway.

grthink In reply to Klype [2006-11-19 17:39:30 +0000 UTC]

I think you#d have to be atheist to invent the dishwasher -- relinquishing the faith that god would sort out your dishes for you and all.

hehe, very nice! I haven't made a collage since school. I think I've lost the skills, maybe you could give me some pointers!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Klype In reply to kezmund [2006-10-31 19:06:42 +0000 UTC]

why, yes. um. big pointer - just put up a lot of pictures and bits, have lots and lots of alternatives, and just try out as many combinations as possible, until you're satisfied. just keep going. and if a piece ruins for everything else, don't get to attached to it, you could always use it another time. and I don't know. don't be picky when cutting out stuff, part of an ugly picture can look good in another setting.
good?
