5 am and i’m still awake,
thinking of the colour of your eyes
and the way they light up when you smile.
they say the eyes are the window to the soul,
and i almost hope that isn’t true
because you have sad eyes,
beautiful, sad eyes,
and if they’re showing me your soul
then it’s sad, too.
just like mine.
you’re a dreamer whose dreams
have been crushed
by the cruel, harsh reality
of this fucked up world.
you’re a lover now afraid to love
because god knows that loving,
or losing love,
can be a living hell.
you’re a fighter by circumstance,
a gentle soul forced into combat.
fighting because it’s what you need to do
to survive.
i’ll give anything to watch the pain
fade from your eyes
because at least for a moment,
you’re at peace.
i’ll do anything to make you smile,
because the way you look at me when you’re content
makes me happier than anything else ever could.
