Description The alarm clock sounded just before sun rise.  My hand shot to the off button almost instantly, as it had been trained to.  I sat up in bed, yawned and stretched, then slid my feet off the edge, stood, and walked to the door, rubbing my eyes and wobbling a bit.  I walked down to the bathroom in my pajamas.  It was still dark outside as I showered and brushed my teeth.  I returned to my room, still a little sleepy, dressed, and headed outside.

My name is Miles Knight.  I'm a 10-year-old kid with blue eyes and ruffled brown hair.  I live on a farm with my mom and dad, who were out of town for the week.  While they're gone, it's my responsibility to take care of the animals on the farm; that's why I was up so early.  It's around mid-December and it's starting to get a little chilly.  I had on a jacket, a nice hat, and a scarf for good measure; I didn't want to be sick for Christmas after all.  This year, my parents were planning a big Christmas party, and we were raising something special: turkeys; twelve of them to be exact.  Twelve, big, fat, delicious, Christmas turkeys – all for the Christmas party – and it was my job to keep them fed, fat, and happy…until Christmas.  But today, I was in for a big surprise.

We kept the turkeys in a small, barn-like structure, to keep them out of the elements.  I walked across the rather barren lawn to the barn, dragging a bag of feed behind me.  "C'mon, turkeys!  Wake up!  Breakfast's here!" I called as I pushed open the barn doors with my shoulders as I dragged the bag of feed in behind me.  My heart sank as I turned and saw her: an enormous green snake with bright yellow eyes and a scaly yellow belly, bulging with turkeys…my turkeys!  She was swallowing up the last one as I got there.

"W-what do you think you're doing?" I demanded.  The snake, who's mouth was rather full, turned her head to look at the little boy who'd she'd just noticed as she had been busily gulping down her pre-Christmas feast.  She tipped her head back and swallowed the last wriggling bird with an audible gulp and let out a satisfied sigh, followed by a little burp.

The snake cleared her throat and spoke.  "Me?" she asked.  "Why I'm just enjoying a little breakfast is all."  Before I noticed what was going on, she had slithered around me, using her enormous body to block the exit.  "And, by the looks of it, a very scrumptious little morsel has just arrived," she said with a grin.

"Those were our turkeys!" I stammered, a sleight quiver in my voice, "and, I-I'm not your breakfast!"  I began to step backwards as she stared into my eyes, licking her lips.  But she was one step ahead of me.  As I stepped back, her tail caught me off guard and I tripped.  As I fell back into her coils, I knew this was it, she had me now.  She wrapped her thick, snakey  coils around me and squeezed gently.  I squirmed and struggled, but it was no use.

"Oh, you're going to be delicious," she said with a grin, drooling with anticipation at her surprise 13th helping this morning.  "Stop your wiggling!" she demanded, giving me a good squeeze.  I did as I was told.  I looked up into her eyes with a sad look on my face; I was about to cry.  Not only were all our Christmas turkeys gone, I was about to spend the next week in a snake's stomach!

The snake sighed and looked away from me for a moment, thinking.  "Look," she said, "don't cry.  What's your name?"

"M-Miles," I sobbed.

"Don't worry, Miles," she told me.  "I promise I won't hurt you."

"B-but, you're gonna eat me!" I began, tears welling up in my 10-year-old eyes.

"No, no," she said quickly, "don't do that.  Please don't cry?"  She loosened her grip on me a little.  "My name's Tia." She told me.

"Please don't eat me, Tia," I begged.

"I'm going to eat you," she said flatly, "but I promise not to hurt you.  Y'see," she continued before I could interrupt, "I'm not your ordinary snake."

"You're not?" I asked with a sniffle, wiping tears from my eyes with a hand I'd managed to wriggle free of her coils.

"Nope," she said rather proudly.

"How are you different?" I asked, curious now, and anxious to prolong my ingestion in any way possible.

"Well," she began, "what happens when you get eaten?" she asked me.

"Ummm, you get," I paused and gulped, "digested?"

"That's right," she said.  "But my belly's special."

"How?"

"When my belly digests, say, a tastey little kid like you, he wakes up in his bed when I'm finished with him, safe and sound."

"Is that what's gonna happen to me?" I asked, concerned.

"Mhmm," she said with a nod.

"Well what about the turkeys?" I asked.  "Will we get'em back?"

"Well," she said, "someone might.  Y'see, the turkeys'll wake up just where they'd like to be, and I doubt that's on your farm, a few weeks before Christmas dinner…no offence."

"Oh," I said, beginning to understand.  "So, I'll wake up, where I wanna be?"

"That's right!" she said, practically beaming at me.  You could tell she was quite proud of her stomach.  "So," she continued.  "This brings us to you."

I gulped.  Now that our conversation had come to an end, I knew where I was headed.  "Will it hurt?" I asked in a shaky voice.

"Actually," she told me frankly, "from what I hear, it kinda tickles.  You're not ticklish, are you?"

"No," I lied, turning my head away as I blushed.

"Good," she said.  "Well, we better get to it then.  It's gonna take me a week to digest all this."

"You mean all my turkeys!" I retorted.

"Hey, a snake's gotta eat too, y'know," she said flatly, and with that, she opened her mouth up wide and stuffed me inside.

I had never been eaten before, and wasn't really sure what to expect, but actually, it was a lot like how you'd imagine it.  It was warm and slimy and I could feel her throat muscles flex as she began gulping me down.  I was squeezed and squished down deeper and deeper into the snake's throat until only my feet stuck out.  With one last slippery slurp and a big, wet gulp, she sent me down her throat to join the turkeys in her stomach.

"Yuck," I said to myself as I was squelched into her tummy with all the turkeys.  It was tight inside, but it had a sort of 'safe' feeling too.  It wasn't completely dark either: a strange, warm light shown through her insides.

After gulping me down slowly, and letting me squeeze into her belly, Tia sighed again and hiccupped.  "What a delicious finale," she said, licking her lips.  "Thank you very much, Miles, for finishing up my breakfast on such a sweet note."

"Uh, you're welcome," I replied from inside her, my voice muffled.

"Just relax," she told me.  "You'll be waking up in your bed before you know it."  Even as she said this my eyelids began to droop.  I yawned and struggled to stay awake inside the rather pleasant interior of the snake.  "Relax," she said again slowly, with a deep, satisfied sigh, and by the time she had finished letting her breath out, I was fast asleep.

--

The next thing I knew I was waking up in my bed.  I was in my pajamas.  I yawned and stretched as the morning sunlight shown threw the slits in my blinds.  It took a second before I realized what had last happened to me.  "That snake!" I shouted aloud, though no one else was in my room.  I jumped up, grabbed a jacket and put on some boots and ran outside in my PJs.  I ran all the way to the barn where she had eaten me, and sure enough, there she was: a big, green, sleeping snake, and she still had a slight bulge in her middle, and a smile on her face.

The barn doors creaked when I pushed them open.  I went inside and knelt down next to her, gently rousing the snake from her sleep.  "Tia," I whispered.  She blinked her eyes a few times, and yawned and stretched.

"See," she said, sleepily, "I told you you'd be fine."  I just stared at her with a rather puzzled look on my face; I was thinking hard about everything that had occurred and what to do now.  She had eaten all of our Christmas turkeys and there was now only a couple of week left before Christmas!  "Oh, I get it," she said when I didn't say anything back.  "You're still mad about the turkeys, aren't you?"

After a few seconds I spoke.  "No," I said.

"What?"

"No, I'm glad you ate them."  She looked very confused now.  "Like you said, snakes gotta eat too," I said with a smile.  I almost felt a little sad for her, living outside all on her own.  Sure, she had one good meal, but how often do you think she gets to eat like that?

"What are you gonna do?" she asked me, lifting up her head to my level so she could look me in the eyes.

I thought for a minute, then asked, "what do you think about spending Christmas with us?  In our house, I mean."  I thought I ought to show her a little Christmas spirit.  Plus, my parents would be coming home tomorrow and it would be a lot more difficult to explain what happened to all our turkeys without the snake still here.

"I," she began, stuttering a bit, "I don't know what to say.  After I ate you and your turkeys?"

"Like you said," I repeated, "snakes gotta eat too."

She turned her head away.  "I don't know if I could."

"C'mon," I said in a little stronger tone now, "I insist.  Besides, it's not like you a big, mean snake or anything."

"No?" she replied, looking back.  I could see tears in her eyes now.  It was obvious no one had ever been so nice to her before.

No, of course not," I told her, putting my arm around her, trying to make her feel better.  "You really made me feel at home when I was, y'know…" my voice trailed off.

"Yeah?" she asked with a little sniffle.  "I didn't want you to cry or anything.  I'm sorry I ate you," she continued quickly through her tears, not letting me interject.  "I didn't know you were gonna be such a sweet, little kid.  Honest!"

"Hey!" I finally managed to interrupt, "don't worry about it.  Do you wanna spend Christmas with us or not?" I asked.

"Yes," she said with a smile and a sniffle; there were still tears in her eyes.  "If you don't mind, that is."

"Of course not.  C'mon," I said, "let's get you inside where it's warmer."  I helped my new friend Tia slither across the lawn, up the steps of the front porch, and into the living room.  Her going was a little on the slow side as she still had some "dinner" in her belly.

Hello! I just wanted to say hi, and that I love your stories in general. Admittedly I'd only seen you and Tia from A's artwork before earlier this year when I actually started coming to this site, so I hadn't really seen your stories and such before this March or so. And admittedly it's taken me until now, at least seven months later, to actually comment on any of your stuff. Part of this is because I know you don't really do much writing anymore. Is it just a lack of inspiration, or more likely time? I can't see someone like you just losing interest, but whatever your reasons are I can respect them. I feel like you and A are some of my main personal inspirations for my general work here though, so I wanted to at least acknowledge you on that. And, of course, just give you a friendly hello, because that's always a nice thing to get and to give! ^^

Also I kind of honestly had some questions regarding some of the things in this story... I know you wrote this almost five years ago so I'm sorry for being so late to the discussion. And I get that, like you've said, this is just an imagination and you two have always been together. Mostly I'm just wanting a few clarifications on exactly what happens with Tia's "special" abilities, because admittedly I'm considering using a similar system in some of my writing. (Hopefully you don't mind... If you have any problems with me using Tia as a basis/inspiration for this I can change some details.) Granted, I think since I thought of these questions I've found some clarifying points in the story itself, but I just want to know. Sorry to put pressure on you if it's something you'd rather not think much about right now.

First, and this I'm fairly certain I saw a little more clearly after rereading this and seeing other stories from you, but for the amount of time that passes between you falling asleep inside her and waking up outside her, is it basically just until the next morning rather than any specific time interval? And throughout the end of this part and the beginning of the next part occasional reference is made to still being able to see "the turkeys" inside her... This may be kinda gruesome but is any of, well, you still there as well, or was she able to go out of her way to "finish" with you first so you'd wake up sooner? I'd imagine it'd be weird to think about being in two places at once, more or less, so I could understand how the narration would sort of gloss over that fact if it were the case. I guess when it comes to those details maybe it's best not to think too much... I think that's all I had to ask. Sorry again if it bothers you asking for those kinds of details and such on what's meant to be a really cute story. (Which it really is, don't get me wrong. )

Also, sorry that this is such a long comment. I'm bad at having way too much to say a lot of the time and it sometimes loses people. Regardless, thank you for being such a great writer, and even if you're not as active anymore I hope to see you around from time to time!

Fair enough. You do seem to be pretty quiet around here in general nowadays. I guess you just don't always have the time to do everything you'd like to. In any case, it's nice to talk to you, I really do like your stories, even if you don't write much anymore. ^^
