GENGAR USED SHADOW BALL! CRITICAL HIT! IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE! Holy codfish, that's a lot of damage.I love Gengar.
A lot.
Coincidentally, I had too much time on my hands and this came into being.
Done in GIMP in, idk, 2.5 hours? Something like that.

Those are some spiffy effects. Seriously, that Shadow Ball is awesome. You use such a broad range or purples; it's really pleasing to the eyes. On the far right side of Gengar's mouth, there's one tiny black line that looks out of place, but other than that, great job.

I doodled a basic outline on paper first, then scanned it and opened it in GIMP. I then used the path tool (GODDAMN IT TAKES FOREVER xD) to do the line art on another layer. I added another layer to do the base colours, and then another for shading with the airbrush tool, and yet another for the shadow ball.
So now I'm trying to remember how I did the shadow ball xD I thiiiink it began with the airbrush tool, with one of the round brushes. For the lightning in it I know I used a lightning brush, and I wish I knew where I got it, since I feel bad for not giving credit D:
I found the dodge and burn tools to be ridiculously helpful with Gengar, as well as saving a variety of different purples in the palette to play with. Bahhh okay I'm totally useless with explaining, and I didn't want to ramble. Someday tho, I'll make a tutorial as I'm drawing, since it seems easier, and it looks like fun : D

That's pretty awesome, Jules. I love the way you coloured Gengar, and the effect of the attack is great, too. He also happens to look a lot more evil than I ever remembering them looking in the games slash show xD
