I must say that this is a really good capture that her looks really are meaningful even though I must agree that shyness may not be the exact word to define that look As a photographic point of view, I would have chosen to retouch this shot in a way that she stands out more from the wall behind her, I am not sure how to do that but may be changing coloring in some way might be a solution. Or in the field, if possible of course, she could have stood further from the wall or even you could have incread DoF by changing your settings

In my opinion, you could play around with the Levels on the photo so you could get a little more depth.
