I actually don't like the layered appearance the technique brings to this wolf. It looks fine in select areas like the neck where there is bending/stretching and the resulting clumping of fur. But on the legs and sides, without zooming, it makes the wolf seem feathered rather than furred! The legs also seem to suggest a brindle patterning.
I do appreciate the variation in hair length over the body though!

I can see what you mean, but by "zooming" if you mean on clicking on the actual size, that's the size I work at, so the quality is going to favor full-size rather than the "preview" size, per say. I only care about full-size now that I'm working on print-sized canvases.
It's a very soft fur and certainly more detailed than my regular approach. The leg fur I used a slightly smaller brush for shorter lengths but still kept it large enough to give it a denseness that I felt it lacked if I did otherwise.
