All of these except the standing adult on the right are the same baby giraffe. It was sitting in the shade and being adorable in general.Related content

Hooved legs are hard. If I'd been trying this without reference, there'd probably just be an angry squiggle covering the bottom half of these guys.

Excellent anatomy, giraffes are a toughty to draw. especially the bottom half of the legs - dang their ankles!

At the san diego zoo, we have a "tiny" little youngster right now.

The yearling at our zoo is just as adorable as the one who is a month or less right now (i can't remember the exact date of birth :S) but yeah.

I've been on a bit of a giraffe kick lately, so this made me happy! I'm especially impressed by the legs of the sitting one.
Do you just spend the day sitting and sketching the animals at the zoo? I'm envious because we don't have any zoos in my province to go to.

I don't go to the zoo nearly as often as I'd like (maybe only 1-2 times a year on average), but when I do, you better bet I'm there for as much of the day as possible. Since I'd already just be there staring at the animal, I might as well draw it too and try to become a better artist.
Also, thanks! One of the coolest things about life drawing is you will come out with drawings you'd never be able to make up on your own, and hopefully learn to pull them out of your head eventually.

It's the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fairly small zoo, but they have a decent variety nonetheless, and I've been impressed with their work at keeping the animals stimulated and happy. Nothing will be as perfect as the wild, but they do their best.
