Description I love Lizards. I honestly could not get rid of the little grin on my face while sitting right next to this one, watching it come in and out playing peekaboo with me, and of course sunning itself. There is just something about reptiles I love, partly something to do with how birds, that are apparently warm-blooded, are according to scientists quite closely related to them. I think Archaeopteryx is probably the give-away to that.

The Common Lizard is such a surprisingly small and agile living thing. When I first saw this, I just couldn't believe how tiny they really are compared to my expectations, and their speed is surprising too. When the Common Lizard is scared by a predator, it can shed its tail and leave it as a distraction. Although the Lizard is without a tail for a little while, it can regrow, although the tail might not be as long.

I am glad I managed to get closer this time. Close-ups aren't everything, but my previous Lizard photos were not in my opinion, very detailed and had distractions. I had that view at the time, but wanted to share the sighting. I took this with the Canon EOS 250D, mounted with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM, at RSPB Lakenheath Fen Nature Reserve.
