In 2052, fortune comes Tobikage's way in the form of two major additions to his life - the first being a welcome romance between him and Soraya Setsushi and the second addition being reunited with his long lost son Meguru.
...well, at least the romance between him and Soraya is blossoming.
Meguru looks like he's not having it right now.
As for why he's being emotionally distant from the father who WANTS a relationship with him, please bear with me:
I've long suspected that Meguru had issues with his father and father's school BEFORE the death of his mother. To ME, at least, I feel he was much closer to his mother, as her death drove an emotional wedge between him and Tobi and promoted him to run off.
I also suspect that his swan dive into darkness and him assuming the "Setsugekka" persona wasn't all Natasha and Ameryuu's influence. Believe me, those two did a number on him and manipulated him, but I think Meguru would have STILL harbored darkness in his heart even if he hadn't ran into Natasha and Ameryuu.
If I'm off the mark about this, I'm sorry. It's just how I see Meguru.
