I usually find it difficult to feel any kind of emotion or deep feeling when I see icons, emoticons, and other similar things such as small pixel art images. This is one of very few icons to strike a note in my heart.
Through watching the sequence of these blinking Christmas lights, I was almost immediatly filled with the memories of when I was younger (well, I'm not "old", but things have changed :3 ). It reminds me of the days when the whole family would go light-watching in town, and also setting up the tree, and decorating the front porch.
The timing of the lights is spot on, it really does look like the sequence of a real set of christmas lights. The dark outline of each glowing bulb adds an authentic, more belivable look.
I do wish the cables didn't meet at a point though, it looks a bit odd. Even if you were to lower the top most pixel at the apex, that might look a bit better. But that's not really much, the main focus here are the lights, and you did an excellent job.
Beautiful piece.

First off, thank you very much for your kind words. I agree, I don't often find much in emotes to speak to me. I'm about the same age as you, and definitely know the feeling of change, things not as simple as they once were when you could just be excited by flashing lights.
I was having issues with the cables, actually, but it was the curve of them, rather than the apex. To defend my sharper point on the cable, I was actually thinking of them being nailed to a roof or something, and dropping down from there, and back up, maybe it didn't come out so well. Ah well.
Thanks again.
