Despite his nature, I think he was genuinely happy to be with her. Β He was able to allow himself to simply be a man named King with a beautiful loving wife instead of just a nameless, soulless homunculus called Wrath. Β He did tell Mustang she was the only thing in his life that he ever chose, after all. Β I also like to think that after Promised Day, she was never told the full truth about her husband and was allowed to remember him as the man she loved.
