Acrylic on canvas, 16x20 inches.An old piece. I pretty much remember doing this one (though I later changed the girl's face). It was in August of 1989, which stuck particularly in my mind because it was unseasonably cold for August. I also remember listening to Penderecki's 2nd Symphony as I was painting.
The owl chimera has turned up in my dreams several times, always in a night forest setting, and always whispering evil things to me. Blasphemies, and vivisections...
I have no doubt that it exists - somewhere.

I see Alfons Mucha in this painting. If Mucha was more somber, sad, nightmare-ridden and, of course, way less obsessed with champagne and cigarettes.

Having barbed wire so close to my eyes scares me more than the owl.

I keep being drawn to the eyes of the owl, they are piercing and so still, it gives me the chills.
I do get the impression this owl creature is a whispering evil things like you say. Really good representation of that feeling.
The girl almost seems out of place at first but the contrast with her hair and the purple in the moonlit sky connects everything back together.
