I really love this.
The whole piece is amazing but the girl at his feet captivates me.

It was inspired by Liszt's Christus oratorio.

So I'm not the only one who's had that dream.
Awesome work, as usual.

powerful and thought provoking.
reminds me of getting put in the adult bible study class as a pre-teen for asking questions that were deemed not appropriate for the content of the children's class. my first sunday in the class, my mom (a preacher's daughter) commented about the lesson that it was a good thing that christ was crucified rather than stoned, or we'd all be wearing rocks around our necks and hanging them on our walls. might not be able to tell us apart from the new age'ers. the priest who conducted the class just sat with his mouth hanging open.

The pre-Raphelite returns. This painting has all the power of the ancient and modern figures of the crucifiction and I like the arcane symbolism....

This is a painting that blew me away the first time I saw it, and now blows me away even more, as now I see things I didn't see before. Of all the paintings of Christ on the cross I've ever seen, this is my favorite.

You're welcome, when I first saw the picture, in small view, I thought it was blood.
To see the roses changed it all for me, you transmuted blood into life, but life with more thorns, how fitting.
I've heard Jesus referred to as a vessel, you made him a vase.
