The Vindura Homeworld, Named Apathas

Western Cities:
-Palota: the city of the Ancients, where they reside. Behind the palace, over the mountains, there is a 'secret' entrance to the academy for the Vindura guard.
-Valiant Lake: a smaller settlement of freshwater Vindura and Blank Variants/Inanis.
-Seyonada: the blank variant kingdom, of mostly pureblood Inanis, lead/ruled by Ike Sephiran.

Eastern Cities:
-Icriria: a large desert city by a huge oasis, filled with every type of Vindura but the ice Variants and Arctic water Variants usually. It's known for its huge market.
-Iron Mountains: a Earth-variant carved city filled mostly with earth Variants learning/training their elemental skills. Also a hot spot for tourism because of the beauty of the intricately carved buildings, castles and tunnels.
-Chill Winds: One of the only modernized Arctic cities in the Vindura homeworld, mostly for tourists/travelers and Ice Variants.

P.S. There are loads of other modernized settlements filled with different types of Vindura all over their world, I just didn't feel the need to name and list all of them

General amassed info:

-the Vindura travel between two worlds, although they're referred to more as realms. The Vindura homeworld has different flora and fauna than the 'human' realm.

To get between realms there are 'energy points' where a Vindura goes, performs a sort of meditation and appears in the part of the world they're traveling to that they thought of in their minds eye. The energy points are large, round stone slabs with intricately carved drawings and runes of the ancient Vindura language, imbued with the energy of dead Vindura.

-

the Vindura world has loads of other creatures, which I haven't really gotten to explaining or designing. None of them are quite as huge or sophisticated as the Vindura-- (think humans in our world, with no /real/ natural enemy, but with dangers in the forms of things like bears and sharks, etc)

And some dangers in the Vindura world even come in the form of plants. I've been meaning to do more conceptual art for their homeworld, but I don't want to mess it up. not sure if I want to add an enemy that matches them in strength. Also, the human world does have fantasy creatures such as griffins, dragons, elves, trolls, etc-- the whole lot

-

Ko, Lunuae, Fantestas,Fasha and Ike Sephiran are the oldest living individuals of the species and are definitely considered the most powerful in their own rights. Lunuae and Fantestas are seen almost as royalty, a kind of leader to the species, especially in the lands around the city, Palota.

-

there's a loose system of heirarchy in the Vindura world-- the ancients are held in highest regards, (except for Ko by most). Next down are the wealthy, usually pureblood Inanis (blank variants) or more experienced Vindura, such as individuals of the Vindura guard.

Below that is the poor, the ones who must work to make ends meet, although it's not held to one specific variant.

-

Some people in the human realm, mostly non-humans, know of the Vindura's existence. Most humans believe they're a myth or a legend, but if they found out it could go either way (fear or anger).

-

The Vindura realm is about where we are in real life technology wise, although they build and dress like the ancients often just to honor their ancestry. Some Vindura don't even live in cities, they live in the wild to connect to their pasts.

-

The Vindura started out using a different language to humans when they were first created. After first contact with the human realm, they began learning that language and their own language has more or less died out, only in old books or on the runes of ancient caves and energy points. Sometimes the ancients can be heard talking to eachother in this ancient language, although rarely.

-

Vindura have many varieties, many of which have some form of feathers on them in one place or another. However, there are a few variants who have no feathers at all, and variants who have feathers and scales. Most have scales if not feathers, but some just have smooth skin with scales scattered across, or some have bone-like protrusions for protection or offense/defense. The earth Variants are the only ones with metal on them naturally.

Vindura age scale:

1-10: infant

10-100: toddler/child

101-300: almost teen

301-800: teenager to adolescent

801-3000: young adult to adult

3001-5000: middle aged, verging on elder

5001-8000: eldest.

Some live longer though, physical aging typically slows at 300 and the effects aren't seen as much until their next big age hurdle (ex: 800, 1000, 2000...)

Breeding/mates/babies:

-Vindura can pair up in any way, any variant with another. Generally they have one mate for life, but if a mate dies it's not unusual for a Vindura to find another life partner. The ancients, for example, have had multiple mates in their lifetimes, because of their longevity.

-

When it comes to finding mates, there normally isn't much competition, unless the individual is wanting to find a mate of the same variant. Trying to find a mate of the same variant could result in some competition between two males vying for a female, or two females fighting for a male. Although this is usually a rare occurrence in the main Vindura cities, it does happen out in the wilds where the developments/towns are more one-to-two variant centered.

-

There isn't really a breeding season necessarily, although Vindura who plan out pregnancy and gestation will often do it so their hatchlings aren't born in the winter, unless they're an ice variant or arctic water variant.

Some males might get more aggressive this time of year to protect mates who are incubating eggs, or their hatchlings.

-

gestation itself (inside the individual) is only about 5 months, wherein the Vindura can be in their human form. The egg is developing to be layed, and then the Vindura will need to shift to their true form to lay their egg/eggs. Usually they only have one, but sometimes they have two. Individuals gestating two eggs will usually need to shift to their true form sooner than 5 months. They then need to incubate the eggs for six months after being layed, and that's when the babies will hatch, so 11 months total for the baby to develop. The male and female of the breeding pair will take turns incubating the eggs and taking care of hatchlings

-

There can be same sex couples as well, who can adopt abandoned eggs to raise on their own. Amazingly, many Vindura will lay unwanted eggs and put them in the human world. There are groups of Vindura who will search the human world for these lost eggs, and bring them back to the homeworld for proper care/incubation until hatching. Basically big hatcheries/orphanages.

-

when two Vindura get together that are different Variants, they usually have mix-breed babies, which have become more common as the Vindura have modernized. If an elemental variant gets together with a blank variant, the baby will be the variant of the elemental parent, but weaker. (I might draw what some mixbreeds would look like or do, but for now it doesn't matter, until Vindura start pairing up.)

-also not that it really matters, but Vindura usually breed in their human forms.

Babies/children/adolescence:

-babies are only really 'infants' until ten years of age. After hatching they are usually scaleless and/or featherless, and blind. They gain sight after 6 months or so, and begin eating solid foods around 1 year. Feathers and scales grow in the next 9 years, making them look more like adults but much smaller in size.

-Young Vindura might stay with their parents till around 100 years of age, to learn from their parents and train with them, before heading out on their own. This is the time period they would learn to fly, as well as learn to shift to their human form. However, it's different for every family.

-usually after 100 years of age the Vindura is on their own, to do what they wish.

-

Vindura and the ancients:

-Although the ancients are held in high regard, some Vindura will try to challenge them. Generally Fasha or Ko are the ones to be challenged because of their weaker status than Fantestas, Ike or Lunuae. If a Vindura beats an ancient in battle, they basically get bragging rights and maybe some more respect from others with high ranks, but that's it.

-Lunuae and Fantestas are seen almost as royalty and are greatly loved by most of the population, but some disregard Fasha and Ko, namely Ko. Ike is only respected in the blank variant kingdom he lives and rules, named Seyonada after one of the first blank variants, one of Ike's parents.

-Vindura will sometimes try to become mates with the ancients because of the ancients power and status, and it's not terribly uncommon, but it's not /common/ either. (And this is usually mates with Vindura whom they are not descended from) Ko is the hardest one to get in a relationship with, evident by the fact he's only had two direct children.

-

Vindura jobs:

-Jobs for Vindura can be basically anything we have today in our modern world. However, certain variants are more suited for different jobs, and I'm sure you can figure out which for what.

-the highest respected jobs are usually Vindura who are a part of the Vindura guard, and the descendants of Fasha who take on Doctor/healing jobs.

The Great Serpents and The Inanis/Blank Variants:

-The blank variant, or Inanis Vindura, were the first Vindura individuals of the species before the first Great Serpent (Lunuae) was created. They have no element, and the Great Serpents (Lunuae, Fantestas, Fasha and Ko) bred with these Inanis individuals. The children from these relationships begin the descending line of elemental Variants, which correspond to an Ancient individual.

-Lunuae, Fantestas and Fasha had several relationships with Inanis and several children from each, but Ko only had one Inanis mate and one child, a daughter who is dead in the current time. So unusually, all his descendants can be traced to that one daughter, unlike the other Great Serpents and their children.

The Lost Variants

There are variants amongst the Vindura species that are now known as 'Lost variants'. These variants were once thriving when the first variants were becoming distinct, but have since become near extinct. The lost variant types represent a power the ancients had at one point and might still have, but haven't practiced in a long time.

Why did they become near extinct?
-The lost variants were considered more powerful than the other variants, and because of this they were targeted by hostile Vindura and hunted for sport. This hunting lasted until the ancients were setting laws in place, and then the hunting of lost variants became illegal. However, the lost variants still around are still wary and some are still stolen for show or killed by normal variants with prejudice. Another factor that played in was many of the lost variants were seperated because they were trying to hide and save themselves. Because of this the population is very very small for all the lost variants. They often hide themselves from normal society, by concealing their scents with perfumes and not shifting to their true forms around others

Lost variant reproduction

-since there are so few lost variants left, many are left having to interbreed with other variants. However, when their population is big enough for more pairs then they'll sometimes have a form of 'arranged marriage' to keep the variant alive. A lot of lost variant individuals have children at such old ages that they die while their children are still young, but they did so to preserve the variant.

-Because of their paranoia of being hunted, the lost variants will hide their eggs in reclusive parts of Apathas or the human world, and incubate them when they can. Because of this the lost variant eggs often take longer to hatch.

-Lost variants can also be very picky about who they become mates with, for obvious reasons. They try their best to find either another lost variant for a partner, or their same variant to reproduce with to keep the bloodline running as long as they can.

Lost variant Aging

Because of hiding for most of their lives and reproducing at older ages, the lost variants have evolved to live longer than the normal variants

Lost variant age scale:

1-10: infant

10-100: toddler/child

101-300: almost teen

301-800: teenager to adolescent

801-3000: young adult to adult

3001-5000: adult

5001-8000: middle aged

8001-12,000- elder

Some live longer though, physical aging typically slows at 300 and the effects aren't seen as much until their next big age hurdle like normal variants. (ex: 800, 1000, 2000...)

The Lost Variants and their Ancestors:

-

-Time: this variant is one of the rarest of all the Vindura. The variant is characterized by natural colors paired with one bright neon one, and intricate markings or designs. They can manipulate time in many different ways when they practice enough.

-Population size: 20 individuals or more

-Descended from: Lunuae

-

Space: this variant is also one of the rarest of all Vindura. They are characterized by their ethereal appearances and extreme beauty in both forms. They can manipulate the fabric of space, having their voices or themselves appearing in several places at once, or making other things appear as well at their own will.

-Population size: 20 individuals or more

-Descended from: Lunuae

-

Dream/Mind: this variant is slightly less rare than the two mentioned above, and is characterized by their pastel colors, elegant appearance and circular patterns. They can control the minds and dreams of others, for good or bad purposes.

-Population size: around 30 or more

-Descended from: Lunuae

-

Energy: a slightly less rare lost variant, characterized by their many small wings and their interesting colorations. They can actually mimick colors like a chameleon or Octopus. Their power is used by draining energy from other living things and using it to manifest their own attacks, which can mimick the elements of those they drained the energy from.

-Population size: around 30 or more

-Descended from: Fantestas

-

Sound: A variant that is characterized by their bright contrasting colors and graphic patterns, as well as their vents and their frilled necks. They can emit different sounds or powerful shockwaves, as well as mimicking the voices or sounds of others.

-Population size: around 40 or more

-Descended from: Fantestas

-

Psychic: This variant is similar to a Dream/mind variant, but has brighter, harsher colors and is more dangerous looking than it is elegant. They can use powers similar to telekinesis, and can also control the minds of other living things if they so desire.

-Population size: around 40 or more

-Descended from: Fantestas

-

Gem: a variant that used to be a subtype of the earth variant. They can control the growth of rare gems or minerals and use them as weapons, and manipulate the ones that grow from their body.

-Population size: around 50 or more

-Descended from: Fasha

-

Metal: another variant that used to be a earth variant subtype. The difference between them is that the whole body of the metal variant has metal scales, and they can manipulate the metal around them and on them.

-Population size: around 50 or more

-Descended from: Fasha

-

Sand: A strictly desert variant, they can burrow into the sand and live under there and without water for months. They are characterize by their pale smooth skin, with unique patterns and frills. They can manipulate the sand like earth, compacting it into blocks to build or use as a weapon.

Population size: around 50 or more

Descended from: Fasha

-

Spirit: A rare variant characterized by their ghost-like appearances, and transparent feathers, wings or skin. They control the spirits or energies of the dead and can use it to make themselves more powerful, or to corrupt others.

-Population size- around 50 or more

-Descended from: Ko

-

Fear: a variant characterized by their dark colors, and imposing and threatening looks. Sometimes they have more than two eyes, and their bottom jaws can split open. They can pick up on the fears of others and impose them in illusions. Their good fighters physically and mentally, but many of them are somewhat evil because of their powers.

-Population size: around 50 or more

-Descended from: Ko

-

Blood: a rare variant that is characterized by their frightening appearances and prehensile tendrils that run along their body. They can control the blood within other creatures and can use abilities like dark magic to induce sickness or nightmares onto others.

-Population size: around 30 or more

The Lost Syndicate

-This is a group of Vindura that started with one individual- a Fear variant named Kellen. The group began as something to help rescue and preserve the lives of other lost variants, and it still does that to an extent- however, Kellen has grown corrupt with his hatred towards others. Now the group captures other variants and tortures them, kills them, or sells them off to people in the human world. He mainly tries to hire Lost variants, but he'll also hire other rare variants or mix-breeds.

The Creators

Nas and his twin Pas were both born as a space faring, celestial type of dragon. They were hatched together and have always traveled together, and with age they gained knowledge, and with their knowledge came power.

The twins became lonely in their endless wandering of the vastness of space, and came upon a world ripe for growing new life. They took it upon themselves to help fill it with a healthy and strong species, one they could interact with as well. They used their combined energy, sapping energy directly from themselves and literally creating the first eggs of the Vindura Species, the Inanis or Blank variants. As the beginnings of the species grew, they used the power of the three moons of Apathas and created Lunuae's egg from it, planting her in the world to see if her power would bring a new balance and era to the Vindura species.

After Lunuae, many years later when she was already an adult, they decided she needed a companion of similar power- and the light of the nearby Sun was the perfect energy source- and so Fantestas's egg was created. They also blessed Ike Sephiran and Fasha with the longevity of the other two ancients, and then after Fasha was born they created Ko from the darkness to balance everything out.

While creating their species was a great joy for them, they never really had the chance to interact with them as they had wished. The energy it took to create new life from themselves was too much, and after Ko was created the twins went deep into the planet of Apathas, and have been hibernating ever since, unable to see the growth of their species.

Despite being celestial creatures with the power to create a species, the twins are very calm and rarely ever get irritated. They help anyone they can, and have lead their species along the right path- at least until they had to go into hibernation.

They also brought about the first language of the Vindura- the ancient language. This language helps the ancients channel their energy more effectively into attacks or other abilities, and it was the language the Twins had been using their whole lives- the same language that helped give birth to the species.

The two have been in hibernation so long, and have actually physically interacted with the species so little, that Lunuae and the other ancients don't really recall them. The only thing that mentions them is old books written by ancient Inanis, or ancient stone carvings depicting them both.
