*Edit: Strengthened the colours.This time I didn't bother with outlines. I scribbled. I blurred. I messed around with the paintbrushes. I kinda like the result, even how pale it turned out..
Gaara has total sand armour protection which is why he is not muddy, dirty and bloody like Rock Lee (THE love of my life) is.
They are comrades in battle, and they're like, in a thorough discussion of how stupid the enemy soldiers' opaque eye-visors are. Well, they're sadder but visor. HAHAHA, SADDER BUT VISOR, GEDDIT? Okay. I will shut up now.

Hmm? You mean as characters or as couples? I don't really care much about romance, so Lee and Gaara aren't a couple here. I would prefer them as ridiculous eternal rivals, as i have drawn somehwere..

Wow, not bad at all for playing around with brushes. I like the texture of it a lot. The colors are good too. The skin colors are the best parts. The shading and highlighting is so natural. It looks realistic and like the regular style, which aren't two things I thought you could actually make work together.

Painting skin is my favorite part.
The hair's actually not bad at all. The most unrealistic thing is Lee's eyes because nobody actually has eyes like that. He wouldn't look like himself without them though so it's not as if that's a bad thing.

OMG, the hair Kishi draws is horrible! It looks so stiff and weird, especially Sakura's! Neji, Lee\Gai, and Hinata have nice hair.
Lee's eyes? Oh but, Lee's growing more handsome, don't you think? In the current manga chapters, his jaw is stronger, hair is sleeker and eyebrows are thinner.. even his eyes are less round. He doesn't look as ADOREABLE now, but he's looking handsomer..

The thing those characters all have in common is that they have dark, straight hair. You can't screw that up.
Not...really. He looks almost exactly the same. He's taller and he wears a vest but his facial features haven't really changed noticeably. His face isn't as round anymore but his eyes are definitely still perfect circles, and you can't get a lot more round than that.

His face has actually changed a lot! The eyes are somewhat different. In some panels.. They look smaller.

In some panels is face is turned or he's so far in the background you can't even tell. He's not going to become handsome. If he did I would call bullshit and quit reading this manga.

I like Lee how he IS. I don't want him to become cute. I want him to have thick brows, a bowlcut and circular fish eyes. I liked him when he appeared looking like that. It's a part of who Lee is that he's geeky and unattractive. Changing his unconventional appearance would be a bad sign for his character and there wouldn't be a thing left for me in it.
I think he might get some screentime but I also have a very bad feeling that something bad could happen right now.

Do you have the horrible feeling that Lee might die trying to save Sakura from something? I have that horrible feeling. Esp because i hate Sakura. As a pairing for Lee anyway.
Oh, don't get me wrong, i loved Lee when he looked like that. It was the way he broke and beat Gaara up, and his hidden srtength, and his never-give-up attitude and the fact that he can't do ninjutsu.. Lee is amazing. but he's NOT GEEKY AND UNATTRACTIVE!! His fanbase can attest to that! I mean, if he was unattractive, it wouldn't make sense that so many of us ARE attracted to him. Therefore, he is attractive. Even if he has fish-eyes. His eyes are ADOREABLE!!

It seems like that. Why else would he even be there? Then again wtf is Kiba doing there? Maybe Akamaru will take die saving Sakura. .__.
He's definitely not supposed to look good, and his behavior is pretty dorky(He cries and hugs his teacher in front of a sunset while onlookers are horrified, cute yes, but undeniably a strange thing to do). Lee isn't physically attractive and he's not meant to be. Lee fans tend to be people who either find his weird personality and odd looks cute or people who've idealized him because of his good personality traits(like you say yourself,"hidden srtength, and his never-give-up attitude") and don't care if he's canonly good looking. If he was supposed to be attractive wouldn't he look like Sasuke? Or Naruto? Or get the same kind of fanservice scenes that they do? He'd have a lot more of the same kind of fans as Sasuke or Naruto or Gaara, that's for sure.

Yes but Sasuke, Naruto and Gaara have fans who are often there ONLY for the looks. ONLY. I like Gaara, but not really because of his looks. I became a fan in the Yashamaru thing. Gaara and Lee had strong, interesting, pain-filled personalities. Like real people. Lee more than Gaara of course..
Yes, i know Lee is not the archetypal gorgeous anime character, but he IS good looking in his own way, and i do think he's getting sort of handsome-er...
I hope he DOES NOT DIE SAVING SAKURA!! That would be the saddest, most character-abusive-est life ever! Scorned as a kid, never learns ninjutsu, gets dreams crushed by Neji, gets bones and more dreams crushed by Gaara, then becomes a useless filler character for ages, and then DIES SAVING AN UNREQUITED LOVE?? Lee doesn't deserve that!! SPARE HIM!!

If Lee were one of the handsome ones he would have those ...well, more shallow...fans instead of the ones who like him because of his personality first. He really hasn't got a lot of those...or any that I've ever met.
In his own way, yes, he is nice to look at. Especially once you like him and can see how he looks as a part of his charm. He looks older now, because he has gotten older. But overall he isn't changing a whole lot. Why would his brows be skinnier now or his eyes less round or his hair any different? (It's still just a black shaded area without a lot of detail like strands, since Kishimoto doesn't do a lot with hair anyways.) He's not changing currently. He's an older teen now, but he's not going to get a new and better looking look during Shippuuden.
That sort of ending for Lee wouldn't be satisfactory. If he did die, heaven forbid, I would at least want to see it as his final moment of glory, proving himself as a great shinobi after all or something. Protecting his village, not just one girl. Maybe the eighth gate technique. But dying for a love interest you've had minimal contact with and who hardly seems to respect you, especially dying while defending her from her real love interest would be a cruel irony that I'm not really sure Kishi's capable of yet. Maybe Lee will get horribly wounded but saved, Hinata style? Then he gets to fight but doesn't have to die. Kshimoto has said he hates to kill his kid characters so I hold out for the best.

I was thinking along the same lines.. He may end up beaten to a pulp, but not dead. Still, it's annoying that Sasuke will beat him down. I hate that guy. Either that, or Naruto will jump in to the rescue before anything starts. Or maybe Sakura will fight him, and the others she teamed with will be left behind to Karin, Suigetsu or someone? I still won't put my expectations high enough to hope for Lee screentime, for fear of being horribly disappointed.
About his appearance.. well, i drew this to compare: [link] because of our debate.. It must be my fangirl-vision-filter that sees him as handsome then. But I think he IS gorgeous, even when he was a 13-year old! In the manga, anyway. Maybe i'm too in love with him to think of him as even remotely ugly.

Argh Naruto. Lee has NEVER been in a fight someone else didn't finish for him, and it's usually Naruto. That spotlight hogging.. >> Well here's hoping Sasuke and Naruto kill EACH OTHER and Lee gets a spin off.
Oh that could be! What if Kiba, Sai and Lee are there to take on the others like..in any filler. >> I hope Lee gets Juugo. I think they would be a cool match because Juugo relies on super power ups for his physical attacks, much like Lee. I think the manga will ignore Lee unless he is killed or hideously maimed, but the anime will fill in the blanks in his fights. I kind of want to see what Lee will do about Sakura. She still loves Sasuke and I'm pretty sure NaruHina will happen if SasuSaku does, so I want to know what Lee thinks. He must be sad at least.

I know. Naruto hogs spotlight and expression until the remaining characters are drained of all personality and life. On Gaara's death for example, he was SPEWING TEARS while the others just stared dumbly, in a brain-dead sort of way. So Naruto cares. WE GET IT. That was so strange! No other character showed any emotion at all!
But i don't want him to die, really. I'd like Sasuke to die though.. or at least be visibly kicked, beaten and punched by Sakura or someone.
A Lee spin-off will give me the greatest joy evar. I want there to be an acutal Sai fight, goddammit! He was so cool when he first came, i just loved him.. and then he became a lousy comic-relief wallpaper-character. Why? WHY??

I guess most likely, Sasuke will fight his ex teammates, and eventually be put in a position where he once again chooses to be good.
I liked Sai too. I felt bad for him...he never WANTED to be the replacement Sasuke or even be on team 7 but they immediately acted like his very presence was his attempt to weasel his way into Sasuke's place. Not to mention the whole thing felt like "hate on the kid with asperger's" to me... He might not have that but he does almost act like it and the whole arc felt very unpleasant to me.
Maybe he'll get Genjutsu'd and injure himself for something.
I would hate to see a canon female love interest for Lee... Why does he need one? Why would he make a whole new character just for Lee to like? She'd be as one dimensional and flat as, say, Matsuri. And then everyone would start bashing on anyone who didn't like that somehow...

Well, i don't know.. Lee likes girls, but so far none of them like him.. he should get someone who loves him back. I hope he does. I feel sorry for him.

Yes, i agree the Sai arc was pretty cruel to Sai. It made me dislike Naruto and Sakura for quite some time. I especially hated how Sakura punches him, and then smiles and asks what he's drawing. No apology, nothing. Kishimoto is doing peculiar things to his character's beahaviours.
I hate genjutsu, it bores me. I prefer solid taijutsu or swordfights.. something that;s not poofy and full of pans and fancy colours.. the animators use every trick in the book to get out of animating. Thank god for taijustsu.

I don't think a happy ending necessarily comes with a love interest. I don't want to see Lee canonly happy with anyone. I want the series to end with Lee alone so that NO OC children can be made and moron fans get to stay quiet.
I don't even know about it anymore. Nothing makes sense and half the time it's not even fun to read. I want to see how it ends and then I want to go back to drawing.
I like interesting techniques. The battles I like best are the one where nobody stops to think in the middle of it...especially talk out loud.

It is fun to read when Sasuke isn't around, but he's around a lot these days. Danzo's nice new arm, eh? Eh? What did he do, rob corpses?
All the ones with interesting techniques have talking aloud. I prefer Lee, Gai, Sakura, and Deidara getting right down to business and smashing things up. I like rasengan and Sand Coffin too, and Hidan's move... anything that actually shows strong impact.

I like fanfiction so I want something left for it. When they tie up every lose end and strangle everyone with red string, nothing is left for us.
FFFF Danzou's arm, yuck. I don't even care about Sasuke that much, but Gaara being into Naruto was starting to get on my nerves. Fanfiction gay = fine, Canon desperate hidden gay = ....why am I even reading this. I sort of interpreted last chapter as them breaking up, and thank god for that. >>

Fanficition will still persist even if lose ends are tied up. Personally, i dislike lose ends. And yes, the Gaanaru unertones were just... FRIGHTENING. Did you realize he put in ALL the naruto pairings this time? He's just appeasing shippers! That's usually not a good sign.. there was Sasunaru, Sakunaru, Hinanaru, Sakunaru and Gaanaru all at once!
I really really hate Danzo, but if he can tear out sasuke's eyes, i will swallow my hate like a hot coal and become a fan. Sort of.

Oh no it won't. People stop doing anything but butthurt fix fics. Even people who are writing epics and promise they'll finish stop writing. I've seen fandoms die before and it always works like that. Nobody cares anymore once a resolution has happened. Not to mention this story is too huge...he can't give us all the answers in the end. We'll probably never know Tenten's last name or find a love interest for say, Shino. Some of them will inevitably end up alone and uncared for.

I think Sasuke's gonna lose his mind so that might happen. I mean if he goes nuts he'll fight like shit.
Kimmimaro was very elegant and graceful in his movements so he was nice to watch. Up until the end, anyways. But even as a dinosaur looking thing he moved smoothly.

Yes though, fandoms do die, but i think Naruto fandom will pull through. Its just too popular to die easily. Sailor Moon is still going strong and the thing ended like ten years ago? DBZ seems to have died though.

Well...Some people find that Shino would, and should have a love interest because he's a nice, attractive guy, bugs or not. He's just like Lee- just a secondary character who some fans love...we'll never know everything about him, but at least we'll get fics.
Naruto is a shounen manga though... it might be different for shounen. It just seems so hard to see people keep writing once the major motivating factors for reading it (for the lulz, to see what happens, for a pairing) are gone.

I can't date so I can't really answer that question. I mean I could say yes, he seems like a good guy so I might but very honestly, no I wouldn't date him or anybody else. I can't even imagine that.
I don't think Kishi likes or wants to write romance according to the new interview I just read. It seems like he wants to avoid it completely.
