Description
------

Hooboy, first time doing one of these. Hope I did it right!

-------
Design for: Sixbane (Ownership passed to BurningWhite

Prompt: comments.deviantart.com/1/5111…

1 - What parts of your prompt were written well and easy to understand? Was there anything the writer of the prompt could improve on or include next time they create a prompt?
The prompt was actually pretty decent, as it gave me a great deal of freedom while still having just enough information to keep me reigned in.

2 - Please explain how you interpreted the prompt to create your design. Which features did you use? Did you stick to the chosen palette or make changes to it? Does the design you created have any special abilities or quirks?

Sixbane asked for "complicated character", complicated is what I'm giving 'em!

A great deal of the key words given to me by the prompt really struck at me for the ideas. Key among these was the "mythological creature" angle as well as the preference for hybrids. And thus, I did some searching for unusual hybrid creatures and stumbled across the Wolpentinger , which aided me in finding a creature that could be theoretically "have fluff" as well as "feathers". I then combined the creature's basic combinations and began adding bits of the "fallen angel" angle to make the creature a bit more  interesting. The extra request for the scythe helped push the idea further.

"Jewelery" and "armor" were also mentioned, so I tried to add some of that to the character. Looking at the Wolpentinger design again, it reminded me of something you'd see in a Heraldic coat-of-arms, so I decided to play with a crown/chain motif (with the chain on the neck doubling as part of the "scarf" prompt, if a bit unusually so).

The prompt included the mention of black/white/red/purple/blue and sunset colors, which helped with going for a minimalistic approach to a color scheme (which I admit to being a sucker to). No real "sunset" color unless you count the orange for the crowns and the antler-flames. Finally the "stripes" prompt, I decided to play with the idea of runes, with the tail and forehead having a very stylized shaped based off the alchemical rune for "gold" (seen above).

While I obviously played a lot with symbolism here, I'll be letting Sixbane take over in the story department

Any chance you could perhaps let Six know I wish for proof about the change in ownership for the adopt?

Eep,sorry it took me a lil to respond, i saw him yesterday on my phone and couldn't stop being excited over him for like an hour, but didn't have the time to comment and when I'd gotten home it had slipped my mind xD

But aa hes absolutely wonderful- Haha he's certainly unique and I can't wait to draw him quq/
I could tell right off the bat he was a wolpertinger, and i absolutely adore his design
Thank you so much for making him, you did a fabulous job /u/
(It was my first time participating in creature exchange too, and i'm definitely glad I did~)

Sorry for my own slow respond as well.

I'm so very glad you like him! May you be inspired and all that! (and if you ever draw him yourself, can I see? :3)

Nice work with it! So many people just slap a ton if stuff on when they make it complicated and it ends up being too busy. You got the right amount of complexity yet kept a clean design, and wolpetingers are awesome so that's always a plus.

Thanks very much for the kind words!

And yeah, I agree, complicated characters work best when there's a nice balance all around to "see" what they're about. Also I grew up learning how to draw and design characters based off cartoons, so it's no surprise that a part of me still tries to design characters as if they're going to be animated someday, even if that's never going to happen (well, this fella would need a major fur and feather trim for that, but otherwise it shouldn't be all that impossible to do).

Hopefully their new owner will approve of this!
