I did a quck search for US-spec Focus and you're right, it looks still like the 1st gen. Shame that you don't have the new one, looks quite nice and fresh, and drives really good... Not to mention the ST version which is a blast...
But oh well, we don't have Mustangs and Corvettes

The Focus is marketed here as an economy car as opposed to a sporty car. Small, sporty hatchbacks aren't too popular over here. They're seen as muscle car pretenders as well as glorified station wagons. Even the tuners are looked askance at. Mainly because most of them are more show than go. It seems their more concerned with the power of their stereo systems than what's under the hood. Mustangs and Corvettes sell well because they're fun to drive (if a bit pricey) and their heritage. The Corvette is the only true American sports car and the Mustang was the original "pony car". The younger buyers are starting to embrace the hot hatches but most kids want a Mustang or Corvette or similar car. There's also the tradition of big engines in small cars which is the basic design philosophy of the traditional American muscle car.
