Before I start - I've never tried doing photo-manipulations, and never even really worked digitally - so I don't know the techniques or the limitations of the programs used. And if I begin to sound as if I'm not appreciating the time and effort you've put into this - I do; but I'll be merely focusing on the result, and thus might seem dismissive of the process.

I like the concept, the execution of putting this together appears flawless (save for fuzziness in some places where, I suppose, the objects went over each other).

There are some aspects of this you could have done differently to create a sharper, more realistic feel, perhaps convey your message better.
1. Light source: it's cloudy and dim - therefore there is no way the barrel can cast a shadow in either direction. It's surroundings may be darker, but nothing as sharp as you've created on it's left.
2. Color palette - is lovely; however, the browns in this are very strong, rich and warm, especially in the foreground; even though this works nicely with the red of the flower, it actually detracts from the image of barren land (the darker the brown, the more fertile the soil appears... Also, color is always a sign of vitality). Perhaps less saturation in the land, roots, even the barrel would work better with the clouds?
3. Where roots sprout out of the barrel - honestly, they are much too perfect in diameter. I feel like they would either overflow from the bottom, and would become much wider immediately; or they be just slightly narrower at the opening. In either case, the shadows on those folds in the roots should be deeper right where they go into the barrel.
4. In terms of balance, it's slightly strange that both the tarantula and the lizard are on the same side of the barrel...
5. You've whited out the clouds behind the flower to make it stand out. Perhaps a better solution would have been to make the flower lighter, but with sharper outlines - the it would still stand apart on the background?

BRILLIANT! Beautiful contrast! I love that the barrel has roots...and the tarantula and Gecko are great accents!
