ME3's multiplayer part hadn't had shit to do with the singleplayer's gameplay and plot course aside from a tiny bar getting bigger.

I understand, I don't like something like that either, but really, after a closer examination, it doesn't matter in the case of ending.

Eh, not exactly true. You can still get the best ending without doing multiplayer, but you have to make sure you do every side mission - and do it correctly - to raise your EMS to the proper level. Doing the multiplayer made that number a lot more flexible. Basically, the higher your Galactic Readiness, the lower your EMS could be...which means that you didn't have to be neurotic about getting everything right.
