Description yet another character design assignment, but really something i've been wanting to do for a long time and hadn't realized it.
if there are two things in the history of Everything that are hilariously wierd looking on a whole it's birds and really, really old french formal wear.
i mean these dresses.... so... UGLY. and people WORE them! it's pretty amazing.
so here we go.
the Guineafowl is TOTALLY checkin' out that secretary bird. that bee-eater DOES have two heads. they're thinking "man, will you LOOK at that slut?""yeah, i know... what a sleaze." the crane's just lookin' kinda burned, which is a shame because she's one of my favorites out of all of them.

(micron pen, watercolor)

Very nice.

Admittedly, a lot of the formal wear back then was hideous, but some of it (like the crane's dress) is actually quite pretty. Wouldn't be caught dead in it, though.

Wow, you do some amazing things with watercolor! I'm more of an oil paint person so when i try... it doesn't turn out quite as nice. I really love all those details with the dresses and the birds are abso-freaking-lutely cu~ute!

This is SO fantastic!
Did you know that those dresses
probably had a zillion buttons up the back?
Did you ever try to button something
UP THE BACK?
And this makes sense BECAUSE???
Birds are fun.
Great job!

Ahahahahahahahah! That's really funny...

Though, contrary to you I think old French formal wear has it's beauty... Ok, ok, at the begining I also hated those dresses... they were so big and puffed out and had so many ribbons on them and those cone-shaped corsest.. But I guess after reading and drawing so much baroque stuff I came to find them interesting and than fascinating..
I wouldn't wear one on the street though

Funny, I enjoy both odd-looking birds, and old-fashioned French formal wear. but then, I am fond of foolish over-decoration.

I love the attitudes and character. You crazy art students. Also your shiny colors and ability to draw lace without Drawing All The Lace. A talent I wish I had.

Happy the Hollidays.

thanks! you'll get the lace thing some day... it's the kind of thing that you discover totally by accident, and then you sit back and go "... ooOOOOOhhhh... THAT'S how you do it."

Happy holidays to you too

These are such quirky little designs! I cannot decide which I like more, they're all at a decided tie. The two heads on the bee-eater are a great little zinger that caught me off guard. So great.

I can't wait until people look back at our generation and say "man, can you believe what they WORE? Out in PUBLIC and everything!"

ROCK ON that you drew such a perfect parallel from those horrific baroque fashions to the pompous birds of nature... without using a peacock. I'm researching baroque fashion for my own story.. the dresses always remind me of overly sugary cake frosting.
