Description
This was drawn for a watcher on FA who likes Appule. Who is Appule, you ask? Why, he's one of Frieza's (admittedly not very important) henchmen in a few episodes/issues of Dragon Ball Z, one of about half a dozen members of the same species who come in different colors. Although Appule was never shown wearing a scouter in the anime or the manga, other members of his species did, and his Super Barcode Wars card depicts him wearing one with a red lens, so I figured what the heck.Related content

The bikini bottoms are certainly my favorite of the pants that Frieza's crew wears. Such a shame that neither Krillin or (especially) Gohan wore bikinis when they were in warrior armor during the Frieza saga.
Honestly, I don't find Zarbon very good looking for a guy. He looks like a woman without boobs. I think he looked better after he transformed while fighting Vegeta. As far as humanish characters go, I think Jeice looked better than Zarbon in bikini briefs. I also think the same for Namole (I think he's cute in a dorky kinda way).
Overall, I think that the alien characters look the best in bikinis. I only wish that the short-lived likes of Orlen, Vug, Blueberry, and Appule (who never looked better than he does in this pic) lasted longer than they did. Why must the cute ones always die so young?

I think Jeice and Namole didn't so much wear briefs as they wore legless bodysuits. I'm not terribly fond of Jeice. I don't know why. What I like about Zarbon is yeah he does have a rather feminine face, but his body build and voice are very masculine. I always found it a nice contrast. Sort of like Xerxes in 300.
And as for Appule not lasting long, he may not have said or done very much over the five or six episodes he was in, but out of Frieza's minor henchmen he appeared the most (it's a common misconception that he appears one episode prior to the one in which he's killed, when he actually appears several episodes earlier, at the same time as Frieza, Zarbon and Dodoria).
So he was the "always there" henchman. In fact, interestingly, up until Zarbon sends him off to locate villages, he's wearing a bodysuit instead of briefs. All throughout the battle with the Nameks he's got a dark blue suit on, most noticeable when he takes the Dragon Ball from the elder. But when it cuts back to Frieza and them standing around waiting for Dodoria to come back many episodes later, suddenly he's changed into a black speedo.

You know, as great as the character stories and the action scenes were in DBZ, the thing I loved most about the show was seeing cute and funny looking aliens wearing bikini briefs/speedos.
Awesome artwork. I love the angry expression on Appule's face. And nice job on the scouter, especially the coloring (and how it is a lighter hue of pink over his eye).

Indeed. Frieza's affinity for putting his men in bikini briefs, tights, spandex and short-shorts (I'm looking at you, Recoome) is a bit odd, but not entirely unwelcome. At least not in Appule and Zarbon's case. As much as I love Captain Ginyu the briefs don't really work for him and he needed tights.
I thank God everyday that Dodoria went with the (mostly) loosefitting pants route.

Awesome. Appule is one of my favorites, though not one of my top ten. I wish Zarbon and Dodoria (my favorite characters in the universe) were drawn in this same toony fashion.

I was pretty little when I watched DBZ, so I don't remember many of the character's names. I remember Frieza, though. I also remember thinking he was a girl. O_o

I knew he was male simply because all the other characters called him a "him." His henchmen said "sir" and "Master Frieza." Zarbon (the blue guy with green hair) is the one whose gender I was initially confused about, since when he first appears he doesn't talk until the next episode. XD

Yeah, they're favorite of the different aliens who work for Frieza. In fact I think we see them more than any other type (excluding the humanlike ones like Recoome). It's a shame their race never got a proper name. I just call them "Fishguys."

I rather liked Appule. It's a shame he didn't have the chance to do anything except before getting killed by Vegeta 2-3 episodes after his introduction (join the club). I like to imagine he's shaking an angry fist at the fact.

Well, he got to trash-talk the comatose Vegeta, and he outlived Dodoria by a few episodes, so that's something anyway.
