Description Anybody else remember this hunk of lizard? He's from the Jonny Quest ep. Peril of the Reptilian. The "Reptilian" of the title, he's a half human, half dinosaur bio-engineered super-soldier/bodyguard for kooky dinosaur-obsessed scientist Dr. Phorbus.

In addition to creating a half-naked speedo-wearing dinosaur man, Dr. Phorbus also wears jodhpurs and black dominatrix boots (!) with his lab coat and he has a blonde muscleman in a sleeveless shirt for a henchman. He also sounds like Starscream with throat cancer (Phorbus, not the speedo-wearing dinoman). I'd say Phorbus is a bit "iffy."

But enough about that sexually ambiguous mad doctor! This was one of my favorite episodes as a kid, but sadly it's somewhat difficult to come by. Peril of the Reptilian has the misfortune of being from the 1980's Jonny Quest, meaning most fans would prefer it never existed. While that short-lived series is certainly cheesy the amount of disgust fans have toward it is more than a little disconcerting. Which is why it took me so long to see it again.

First time I've ever seen, let alone heard of this fellow. I like him already.

Great job on this! I would have never seen the reptilian dude if not for your most excellent art. He looks like a cool character.

Heh, I never knew they re-did Johnny Quest in the 80's. I'm still stuck in the 60's I suppose with the original series.

Firstly, major pet peeve of mine, sorry; it's Jonny Quest with no "H." I apologize but I see this mistake so often, it drives me bananas (even though I confess it's an understandable mistake)

Many people have probably seen the 80's series, or clips from it, without even realizing it. Unlike the so-called Real Adventures, the 1986 show used the same character designs as he 1964 show. With the end result that despite the drop in animation quality from 1964 to 1986, they sort of run together.

This dude in particular was featured in tons and tons of Cartoon Network adverts back when the channel mostly still ran classic cartoons; whenever they'd show a montage of clips from different 80's-styled action-adventure shows this guy was bound to be included. Not much anymore, as now Cartoon Network seems to exist solely for airing its own original programming (and last I checked, Boomerang was headed down the same path).

Wow! So much time I haven't seen JQ, I forgot all about the enemies, they were usually very interesting.

Nice job!

I actually thought the 80's series was okay, even though I couldn't stand Hardrock and it wasn't in the same league as the original.

All of the episodes of Jonny Quest are up on Youtube if you still want to see the 80's series.

I know, where do you think I saw it? Sadly it's formatted weirdly. All squished. Still good viewing.

It was okay, I guess.

May try to draw Phorbus himself. Love his twotone hair.
