You may already know, but in this case, either the Torchic or the Piplup was formerly a human. I don't want to spoil the story because it's a fantastic game, but it's a special reunion : )

So this group is from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. More specifically, in either Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, or Explorers of Sky. The first two are slightly different versions in terms of what Pokemon you can encounter, but it's the exact same story. Explorers of Sky is the third version that has a whole bunch of extras and I'd definitely recommend it if you ever want to buy it. It has a fantastic story and I still replay it to this day!

I found a used copy at a local Gamestop one day. Wasn't looking for it, but it just happened to be there and I thought, "Eh, why not?". Time/Darkness are great by themselves, so don't be too sad if you can't find Sky, but if you do see it, I highly recommend picking up.

Minimally. The Rangers franchise consisted of three games, I believe, but all were different stories with different characters rather than being different versions of one game. I know there was one called Shadows of Almia, that might be what you're thinking of.
