Besides tracing the pattern from a light table...
Meditation.
There's really no other way to do it, nor any other reason to do it. The reason I draw patterns by hand instead of using a computer is so I can quiet my mind and just experience the action of drawing.
Took about three hours to do the whole thing. Meditative tracing is kind of the only way to get through big areas of pattern without going nuts or getting bored.

I wish I had a light table instead of a cabinet, lamp and glass door...
I don't get how someone could meditate while drawing.
Then again, I can't meditate period.
