Well, I always imagined that since Vincent vowed to protect Lucrecia's legacy which is Sephiroth and the Remnants are related to Sephiroth, so perhaps the feeling of obligation that Vincent had to Lucrecia possibly extended to include the Remnants as well...At least that's my opinion...
