Description I didn't get a whole lot of drawing done during my Gen Con vacation this year, due to tons of other fun things that I was doing instead (cursed friends, with their various exciting things to do!) but I didn't come out of the trip completely empty-handed.  We're starting a new Star Wars Saga Edition campaign shortly, which I am GMing, and that fact got myself and one of my old friends talking.  In a strange way the various campaigns that I have played in or run have kind of grown into a legacy of sorts without my notice, which we decided was quite suitable considering the source material, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the threads of the former PCs and their efforts will appear, and how these new heroes will react to them.  That led to a review of the PCs from the past campaigns, which was somewhat bitter-sweet, considering that several of them were participants in the Clone Wars, and most met their ends in very bad ways (as was the style at the time).

All of that navel-gazing led to me trying to draw my former Jedi duelist Jenna again, after a very long time (the last time was in...2009!? fav.me/d2bj7mn).  Jenna is one of the few threads from the first campaign that is still around for the new one, mainly because she didn't play much of a role in the Clone Wars, and was actually no longer part of the Jedi Order by the end (it's a long story).  She's changed a lot since those young, impetuous Makashi user of her Padawan days, however, and ended up being a teacher for another Jedi in the second campaign (who has also disappeared by the start of this new story).  Despite having a better mental picture of her older self, I stuck with her original design for this drawing, since I had examples of it close at hand.  If the inspiration holds, maybe I'll sketch out something for her 'experienced' version.

I decided to color it, since really when I put a lightsaber in a drawing I usually feel like it needs colors to work.  I didn't spend a lot of time with the colors, and kept them pretty bright and basic, since I wanted to get this to some semblance of completion without driving myself out of my drawing mood by fighting with layers for hours.

This has great rhythm and composition, Brent, and I love how the coloring came out!

Good job with special effects (not mentioning perspective and anatomy)

Thanks!  I spent a lot of time struggling with them, and almost junked the whole thing because the trouble that I was having.  I ended up sticking with something fairly simple, so I'm glad that you think it worked out OK.

The picture, or the backstory?  Or both?

Yes!

I was telling the wife the other day about how masterfully you weave a story over generations of play. This is another example of that.

I would poke and prod you for more information, but I think I will wait for it to develop naturally in the campaign

Well, I do admire your resolve, although in this case you could ask and it would be no issue - most of Jenna's backstory is not directly applicable to the upcoming saga, and the few things that are will be kept secret until they become valid.  If you're just interested in her backstory you know where to find me.
