Description I would go into detail concerning the amount of difficulties that I ran into of late (maybe I'll mention it in a Journal update) but it's easier to just point out that I had started work on this right after my last post...which is now more than a month old.  That pretty much sums up that things continue to be more complicated and time-consuming than I would like, and that sadly drawing is one of those things that seems to be being forced onto the back burner, despite my interest in it still holding strong.  it's irritating.

Anyway, I had really liked how the lineart (fav.me/da0jlhk ) for this came out, and it's been at the top of the list for some time concerning coloring work for me.  As I mentioned when I was working on the Handmaidens colors, I decided to try out some tutorials and maybe pick up a new technique or two, which in some cases makes this look a little bit different compared to what I've colored in the past.  Not everything that I tried worked out (the Undo command is a wonderful thing) but it was a lot of fun to test out some new options for how to bring colors into my work.  I am still planning to keep trying out new things, but given how things are going, it may be a while before I get my next chance...but I hope I'm wrong.

Anyway, I hope you like how it turned out.  I'm fairly happy, as it represents progress, at least.

This is really great--I like the flow of the figure's pose and the color palette works really well.  The purple of the smoke is unusual but harmonizes with the grays.

You know, it's interesting - purple is my "default" when it comes to coloring smoke.  I don't usually think about it.  I wonder how many other things I color like that...

Maybe if I colored more things I would know. I should work on that.

Don't you have enough things to paint already?

Yes, that is precisely my concern.

Are the auras around the candle flames one of the new techniciques?  It's a nice effect, subtle but there.

I like how the coloring has brought out parts of the drawing that I had somehow overlooked.  Having one of the mechanical arms holding an incense censer is a brilliant touch!

The candles are a mix of my old way of doing flames and some new stuff - I am pretty pleased with how they came out, even though it took a lot of fiddling to work out.  As for the incense burner, I'm glad you like it - I just wish that I had done a more detailed design for it.  I think it looks a bit plain...the Imperium would probably have added skulls or something.
